Fun food fund raisers

Do you have any fun food fund raisers near you? I'm not talking about the big community festivals, but rather the events planned for individual organizations.

Today was the local synagogue's annual Kosher-style Deli Take-out Lunch, the 55th annual! Giant corned beef or pastrami sandwich (I brought one home to share for dinner), slaw, a whole pickle, and a slice of cake, for $10.

Another group that provides free legal services for senior citizens has an annual BBQ salmon picnic lunch. The Lutheran Church has an ebelskiver luncheon in early December every year with all you can eat ebelskivers, sliced ham and orange marmalade, plus their rummage sale. You have to wait in line to get a seat.

The whole community shows up every year, far beyond the local memberships in the assorted groups.

All these events are very traditional, and I think there would be riots if anything ever changed. The Synagogue sells about 8000 sandwiches, plus their bake sale, and the other events are crowd scenes, too.

So, what's in your community?
