Must I seal plywood sub-floor before laying peel-stick Tile?
Comments (6)I had the same kind of Sub-floor put in for my beauty shop, I to used peel and stick tile. I primed the 3/4 inch plywood, let it dry. Follow the peel and stick directions for placement. My tiles never came up. You don't need the fancy stuff in the previous reply. I had traffic on my floor for eight years and it looked fantastic till the day we moved out of the home., OH...just make sure to use screws to fasten plywood, we had a floor come up because of nails used by flooring people. Have fun!...See MoreSeal slab before tile?
Comments (1)We lined our slab with brown butcher paper that comes in large rolls (also did the floors once they got put down to protect from further construction). When I can't sweep it anymore, I lay new paper. Don't seal your concrete. It may cause a problem with whatever underlayment/flooring you put down....See MoreSalesperson told us not to put down Vinyl Plank on main/second floors
Comments (5)The sales person has gotten it wrong...but I can see his "angle" or methodology. What has probably happened is someone purchased/installed a floating vinyl floor for a main floor without paying for the subfloor prep (sales person didn't write it into the contract for fear of scaring away the client). The subfloor was not flat enough and the click edges had a problem (which will happen with any vinyl click system if given half the chance). In a basement, that same product would have the same problems if the subfloor isn't flat. Again, it isn't the product that has the problem...it is the lack of prep for the subfloor. The sales person has probably seen a decent subfloor that was properly prepped that did NOT have issues with the click edge...and then drew the wrong conclusion. I would say this particular sales person has had a particular event and has misinterpreted the results. S/he felt the problem was the click edge...when it fact it was lack of "flatness" in the subfloor. And technically, a laminate edge (because laminate can be 2-3 times THICKER) is a little tougher and a little more forgiving. Again, this sales person has made assumptions due to some experience and then misinterpreted what that would mean for your situation....See MoreShould I seal my marble shower floor and walls myself before grout??
Comments (29)I spoke to one of the workers today and told him it was industry standard to use this plastic. I don't know anything about curbs or mud, or any of those other words. I asked him about this book, and of course, he looked at me like I was crazy. My husband spoke to the contractor who said this is totally unnecessary, and that he has been doing this for years this way, even in his own house. -- I told him .- this puts me in a weird predicament because I don't want the job to be done wrong, and I'm not convinced that this is right. We are at a stand-still. I want to take a hammer to those tiles-- I am waiting to hear from the store-owner who sold me the tiles and ask her advice about what I can do now..... I am also going to ask her about the glass shower tiles with cold and hot water. This is why I hired a Contractor -- I don't want to make all these calls and teach myself how to install a bathroom, or a floor, or a fireplace! Creative - I cannot thank you enough. I looked through the book you are referring to. The contractor thinks I'm reading into everything because this isn't the first thing I've complained about.... This is the text he sent me this morning "The vinyl on floor and up walls about a foot and up seat area and on wall behind you do not need on walls unless steam shower nobody puts on wall you are reading to much No concern my own shower is done like this"...See MoreUser
