I'm Canadian and not sure I have this right but didn;t he do a Cherry tree thing? I can not tell I lie..was that Lincoln?

The cherry thing is a good idea.

I think it was G. Washington and the cherry tree - Abe Lincoln cut down trees for a living - Washington did it as a hobby. However, I also did think of a cherry pie.

How about Log Cabin Stew? I think it has beef and cabbage in it, but I don't have an exact recipe.

I remember reading that Lincoln's favorite dessert was a gingerbread layer cake.

So I was close......at least I knew that cherry trees had something to do with an early American president...bet I could better with American History and Geography than most Americans could do with the same in Canada.

PS Sharon, you could definitely beat my DH in a geography bee. We were doing a US states puzzle with the kids and he acually said "North Dakota borders Canada? Is that new?" I think he was joking. I think.

I can't help you but this weekend I'll be making a cherry roll for George Washington's b'day ("I cannot tell a lie...I cut down the cherry tree"). Anyone doing a report on Washington?

You've confused me! That's fairly easy to do early in the morning...but, North Dakota does border Canada. Unless somebody's moved Canada???

And yes, North Dakota does indeed border Canada. My DH was surprised. Being from NYC, he grew up thinking of North Dakota as a sort of mythical location. Like Atlantis.

This thread just gave me a smile - never thought of Abe as any kind of food inspiration and now I guess I know why (and why he was so thin). So will it be omelettes and apple pie for dessert tonight? Or a cake with a log cabin decoration? Or pancakes with Log Cabin brand syrup?
