c&b cameron sofa for exchange - advice please!

I've just discovered this forum and I am glad I did. I have owned a Cameron Sleeper Sofa from Crate and Barrel for almost three years now. The bed is amazing, so comfortable for guests, but the couch is unbearably uncomfortable. I hate sitting on it, I feel that it's even contributed to my back pain. In the beginning I figured that the cushions just needed to be broken in, but it's years later and the cushions need to be replaced and the couch has never been comfortable. Now, I know that sleeper couches are a bit "stiffer" but the entire couch, from the slope of the back to the arm rests just aren't comfortable for lounging around.

So I just spoke with CB and they are willing to take the couch back for a restocking fee: $360 (so I gotta keep the purchase to CB). Which to me is a small price to get rid of this thing. I have my eye on the Hunter Woods Sofa (without the sleeper), but I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Does anyone have any thoughts on the sofa I have vs. the one I am considering on purchasing? I've learned that the Cameron sofa (which I currently own) is a Lee and the Hunter Woods is a McCreary Modern. Should I be worried about McCreary Modern in comparison to Lee?

Thoughts, Advice, Options? Thanks in advance for all your help.

The thing with a sleeper is no matter what type of spring unit is used, it is not used when you are installing a sleeper mechanism. I am sure that Basset uses a plywood frame and a 5/4 hardwood frame would be better, but you will find that most manufacturers do use plywood frames.You might want to look at what type of mechanism they use, what cushions they use, do they have an option for example of a spring down cushion which would be good to use in a sleep sofa as when you sit on a sleep sofa you are essentially sitting on a folded up mattress which is a very firm surface. You might also want to look at their mattress and see if there are any options. Keep in mind that sleep sofas do not sit as well as sofas. However if you need a sleep sofa and you are happy with the fabric and the tailoring than I think Basset would be as good as most in the industry.

Thanks for all the advice and opinions.. The piano was the only thing in there for 12 years, which is why we must have given it such a position of importance! And it really does get played!! There is NO WAY I can move that sucker anytime soon.. Maybe after the holidays I will give it a go! I will not be buying anything else.. with the holidays and all.. PLUS I will be decorating for Christmas, doesn't that always make a room look prettier? Hopefully I can still access this thread when I am ready to switch it around again! And, I still haven't canceled the Ballard rug.. in my eye, a lighter sea grass will make it a little less grannyish and more funky... There's no such thing as truly free advice. If you post here, you "pay" by having to have a thick skin, not having control of where comments go, not having control of how they're delivered, and having to wade through conflicting and bad advice to get to a few gems. That said, you're not paying actual dollars and you're getting professional and high-level amateur feedback, so I'm of the view that you shouldn't complain about the "price." (Idioms about gift horses and mouths and free lunches come to mind). Ignore the irrelevant, wrong, and insensitively delivered advice if you like, take what's of value, and be glad this forum exists. Or at least that's what I remind myself. When I've posted my plan I've gotten all sorts of comments; while the negative (especially the unnecessarily rude, irrelevant, and wrong) can be painful, it's more than outweighed by the valuable comments I've gotten.

I'll post these pics just so you can get an idea on layout design. These pics aren't a recommendation for the type of furniture, so just look at layout. but also look at shelf design. I think if you cleaned up and organized your books and photos a bit better, it would look better. (notice the bottom shelves on these ^. the looks is less cluttered than what you have. put your smaller pictures in a photo book if you've run out of space on the upper shelves) Here are some examples of styling the shelves (and layout for furniture too) rather than a sectional, most of these have two sofas and chairs
