Hi, I have a Sears Craftsman GDO model 139.53985D that I inherited when I bought my house 3 years ago. I have had few problems until recently when it intermittently opens (or closes) and then freezes. Sometimes, pushing the button will cause it to go up (or down) but sometimes it's just locked there. I identified that it seems to be a loose connection of some sort since I noticed that the wall button and the sensors are not powered (usually) when it's locked. If I bump the bottom of the motor unit enough times, I can hear a clicking (like an electrical relay) and if the lights come back on, then it will work fine. I opened the sucker up and found that if I pressed on the transformer, I heard the same clicking sound. But I can't seem to clearly identify the source of the loose connection. If I disconnect the two circuit boards from each other, and then manually push them back together with the power on, then I also hear that sound. Any advice? Or just buy a new unit? Thanks, N

I have had the same issue the past six months — remotes work occasionally, then not at all — and nothing has solved the problem. I’ve spent considerable time on the phone with Chamberlain techs and we have tried everything from making sure there are no LED light bulbs to turning off the power to the entire house except the garage. Chamberlain sent me new remotes, and then a new circuit board and, and I have extended the antenna, and nothing has fixed the problem. interestingly, I have another Chamberlain opener on the other door in the garage and it operates perfectly. I’m out of ideas at this point, so I welcome any other suggestions.

Wowsers. Talk about some serious diagnostics. You are really deep on this one. Have you tried calling them with the update? I unfortunately don't have any advice as you have gone well beyond what I have had to deal with previously.

Bought the 1/2 hp model 54985 chain drive from sears in Mexico. First unit never performed as stated. Stuck in open position and light flashed five times and could not correct it. Sears finally sent out their techs and guess what, they could not make it work after five hours of trying! Mind you this is brand new! We were given another of the same model to replace the new non working model. After three to four weeks this one did the same damn thing, stopped in open position and could not be reprogramed at all. This time i was told to bring in the faulty motor and Sears sent it off for repairs. Its back and we are not in Mexico but home in Arizona. So we have to wait to see if this unit works when we return in April. Mind you we bought this new on March 20th 2015 and warranty is one year. We return to Mexico after warranty runs out. Are we still going to be protected by Sears if this unit fails again? Sear never asked for the remotes just the motor so lets rule that out as a fix! So if you put your trust in sears....DON'T! I went to Costco to return a faulty pressure washer after two years and they gave me a full refund. No run around. Whats wrong with Sears, is management and no longer out to satisfy anyone but sears! I am a life long Sears buying fool and now i am not anymore! I have never in my life met with such resistance as i have with Sears! My recommendation, by any other unit but Sears and buy one that is stronger then the recommended model!
