How bad off oven temp be before you call the repair guy?

Finally found my oven temp gauge after the remodel. My stove (GE Spectra) didn't get replaced. So I tested it today! Its almost 70 degrees off! Is it time to call the repairman??? they don't fix in the home anymore but pick it up and of course charge you extra for the priviledge so I want to be sure I need to call him.

There is an adjustment on or under the Knob or with the newer Ranges it can be done bt pushing Buttons.
Put in the year and Model Number and is there a Dial Baking Control

That's it I'm going to get a snack. I'll try to find the other Posts. Be back soon.
Don't call the service man yet , because it probably is something simple, which they will charge you about $100

Mine was about 25 degrees off and I noticed fast. I had the service man there the next morning.

Secure row covers can definitely work (secure being the operative word!), I use this on a small scale for rocket grown in tubs. It just depends on your situation - in my in-ground garden I intermingle my broccoli, kale, pak choy etc with flowers and other veg, so I don't have large blocks of brassicas that suit row covers, so I use Bt there. Also, I like to be able to give the plants a quick check without having to open up the row cover. The horticultural fleece I have is quite opaque, as is the insect mesh. One thing that I find reduces pest pressure from the Cabbage Whites is planting nasturtiums near the brassicas. I use the climbing ones and run them up trellises or over a fence so they don't take up too much space. The Cabbage Butterflies seem to prefer them. Plus the leaves and flowers are edible, they look pretty and have a nice fresh smell to them.

All other things being equal.......when I look at property I'm not so concerned about repairs on any other room than the kitchen and bath. You can repair wood trim, plaster or plaster board and paint rather cheaply if they need it and a coat of paint or two and you're good to go. That is certainly not the case with any room with 'fixtures' or appliances. These two rooms are traditionally the most expensive ones to renovate and both are totally necessary to daily use. It's just like the wallpaper issue we have had so many debates on over the years. Most folks who are selling are so reluctant to remove wallpaper. It's the PITA factor. Not expensive, just a pain and time consuming. Well, if someone who stands to gain profit off a house is that reluctant to invest in the removal, just imagine how a potential buyer who is about to part with money must feel about the task. I can guarantee you they'll be less enthused at the idea than the seller. It could even be a deal breaker if other properties are in the picture. You can only function with what you feel is best for your situation and make the decisions. It's not our call to make. I do know the last house I sold I was meticulous about repairs and you could eat off the floors. I didn't live in it, but bought it for a family member to live in temporarily and the house was not in the best area of town, and there were five other houses on the street for sale at the time. And this was in the early days of the real estate bust and people were scared to jump in for fear of further devaluations. What I am getting at, is that the condition of the house to be absolutely turn key, repaired and immaculate is the only reason I was able to move that house at all. The other houses.......ALL OF THEM......are still sitting there four years later empty or with realtor signs on them. It would have been tempting to not have done a thing with it, essentially it was in pretty darned good shape......but going the extra mile is sometimes more important in houses one is least likely motivated to do it to, if only to make them so much of a value that somebody just looks at it and says to themselves, all I have to do is bring my clothes and I'm set to go. I even left spare light bulbs, and the phones, all the unused paint for repairs, extra floor tiles and all curtains, and I replaced the blinds even though those amenities are often not part of the regular deal in our area. BTW I got more than the asking price when all was said and done.

You mean it'll be a pony wall at the R end of the FP? The prep sink would work there on the kit side. From Sena's LO there'd be about 4' of prep space between it and the stove. I'd still use a shallow pantry on the wall of the laundry room at the end. (that'd also eliminate the deep lower corner cabinet area problem) I'd put in an EZreach upper cab on that corner to butt up to the shallow pantry. uppers usually run about 15" deep, don't they? I'd want a long area of prep space on the other side too instead of a deep pantry. Having the window side not so deep by the door and shallow on the stove side would make it more open at the doorway. Easier to see little ones coming in too. Having a prep area on both sides would be great when you have help in the kitchen by family/friends. On the window side, how about the fridge next to the dw? You could even move the sink/dw to the L maybe another foot - that'd give maybe 3' or so to the R of the fridge for the desk area. (before the doorway to the sunroom) Try putting this in the layout/or 3d pic and post here so we can see how it looks. I like the idea of the 6' between counters when a number of people will be working in that area - and possibly someone going out or coming in that laundry area door. Less congestion. The wall ovens - those are good for those who have problems bending down to the oven on a stove. Really tall people, those with a bad back... or those who often use oven and stove top at the same time. Many don't like standing at the stove top with the heat of the oven so close to them. I'd love to have one but I so seldom use the oven, it doesn't seem worth it for me. I probably don't use the oven 2x a month. Maybe once a month. btw, I tried bolding my '2x a month' above and it did. I didn't hit submit tho, so maybe it would bonk me if I did that. Or maybe it is the phone or just when editing a post? I'm gonna go ahead and click on submit so we'll know. Saving my post first tho...

Bosch Electric Oven Problems / Temp auto adjusts / Does not turn off

Most ovens nowadays are fully electronic controlled and don't have main on/off switches. This isn't unique to Bosch. #1 sounds like electronics problems. #2 may or may not be normal operation. What mode does the oven come on in when the knob is set to off? Are you sure it isn't just the light and cooling fan turning on? Whether or not Bosch will help you at this point depends on the nature of the problem. If they have found this to be a widespread issue with this model, they will probably replace the board for free. If not, this will probably just be considered a case of bad luck and you'll be responsible for repair costs. If the dealer who sold it to you has a service department, I'd call them, if not call Bosch for referral to a local authorized servicer.

Try to do the adjustment yourself. Do you still have a product guide? You might be able to find it online, too. Like Lou says, it's easy to adjust.

Hi Gibby;
Whenever I check an Oven Temp. I wait until the oven reaches the Setting.
Then I'll check it about 5 or 8 minutes after that, so that it is constant.
If you have an Electric Stove, don't check it while the Burners are Red,
because it is bringing the Temp. up, after the Oven has cooled,
so it may be hotter at the top shelf of the oven.
Wait until the burner shuts down for a minute.( not Red )
If you have a Gas Range; same thing,
wait till it reaches the Setting and
the burners go off or the flame goes lower.

Make sure you thermometer is accurate. Check it with
another, that you know is right.

I found the manual and followed the instructions but it doesn't do a thing. My stove is at least 10 years old. the manual says it will adjust the temp by 35degrees up or down but mine won't move at all. I think its broken. I don't know the model number.

That happened to me a few years ago. There was a metal thingamijig in the back of the dial. I found out what the accurate temp was and turned the metal thing so the reading was accurate when I replacced it. It took a few trys before I hit the right reading. But then, my oven is almost 40 years old.

Sounds like you have a Digital Programer for the Temp.
setting. That's how I set mine.
I can't find my Manual right now.

Or is there a large Knob with all the temperature readings,
that you set, for Baking?

If the Range is 10 years old; I can't say for sure,you can pull the knob off.

There will be a set screw, locking the Setting, either on the back of the knob or
on the back plate. If you loosen it a little, the setting can be rotated and
then locked again with the set screw.

The Model number is probably on a Tag,
pasted on the left side panel,when the bottom drawer is opened.
