Grilled cheese maker?

It could be for popcorn...or a sandwich maker for the BBQ.

It's a campfire pie iron. You butter two slices of bread, add the filling of your choice (pie filling works great) and cook over the fire. All of mine are cast iron.

OMGosh - I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. Those pies were so good!

I agree, here we call them hobo pie makers. You put your bread in one side, add your filling, top with another piece of bread and grill in the campfire. My girls like pizza ingredients on english muffins and jam or pie filling with slices of pound cake for the "bread".

I have half a dozen of them in my garage, just waiting for me to go camping or have a family bonfire.

nosnowtn: Thanks a million! I had never seen one of these before. I just checked out the link and saw that many are cast iron. I wonder why mine is just metal and they didn't make it stainless? The link says it can be used anywhere over fire. I don't camp, but I do BBQ. When I washed it up this afternoon, I placed it over the fire on my gas stove to dry it faster. It gave off a funny though not terribly bad smell, but it didn't last long.

We also used them when camping. My favorite was apples and cinnamon. NancyLouise

I would have called it a Jaffle iron, but it's used as described by the others :-). We call toasties "jaffles".

We had 4 of them in the camper, we called them Mountain Pie Makers. YUMMO!
