Question Re: Tile cutting/sizing 12x12 down to 12x6
Comments (17)Thank you so very much Mongo, you do a superb job of explaining things. I remember you telling me on a previous post about a small wet saw, thanks for reminding me. My husband doesn't have enough hair for spray so I think I'll use some cheapy brand; it is a wonderful tip. I can do this, I pulled it off on my kitchen backsplash with even less information and the herringbone ran on the diagonal. Those tiles were pre cut and I am thankful that they were, because I didn't have a clue to the problems that could have developed if they weren't. They were apparently cut to your equation because they matched perfectly. Crazy spacing, I like the grid tech for the floor:) I remember taping my 45* drafting square to the sides of these sections for drying overnight. One night I stayed up all night to tile. It was fun though. This was my first wall, I got better on the second wall as seen in the 2nd pic: I just picked a center spot over the stove location and started - it wasn't exactly centered though, The grout was still wet at this point: You've just boosted my confidence, and others if they are following this post. Thank you so much again Mongo, for your help on this project, and on all the other projects that us lost souls post on GW....See Moreis 12x14' master bedroom too small?
Comments (35)MrsPete, you are exactly right! As long as I was just THINKING about things, I could consider lots of different ideas. But when the "rubber hits the road" or when the time comes to think about paying for all these great ideas, I'd rather have it paid for with a REALITY CHECK. I can afford more of that. One thing I had on my idea list was an emergency natural gas generator, like the brand Generac. However, with all the other things we need now, that is going to have to be postponed. We will have natural gas range and water heater, and maybe a small gasoline generator to carry the fridge and the a/c. It will be mostly hot weather when our emergencies occur. In the house plan we just recently worked out, the original bedroom is staying the same size. But where the exterior wall once was, we will take out a single window and widen that into about 5 foot wide opening, same as the passageway from living to dining room. Then that allows us a sitting area for us, with an 8' wide closet at one end, I wear a lot of long caftans or muumuus whatever, and then I can keep my sewing in on end of the space too. Future residents can have the option of adding another doorway to the wider opening, I've made it possible to have a kingsize bed on two walls of the bedroom (we only like a queen). Present plans though are for a surface mounted door using barn door hardware. Haven't bought the hardware yet, but we are using an old heavy cypress door salvaged from our house destroyed by Katrina. My DH likes things finished nicely, while I like OLD look, with some of the paint left on it, sanded of course, and then sealed. I have a pocket bathroom door, and they are fine in the right spot, but for sheer character, nothing beats an old door with its hardware visible....See More14 X 12 Kitchen - Ideal Island Size
Comments (31)Coming from a momma with four kiddos who also lives on acreage. Please know I'm not tearing apart this plan I'm just pointing out things that I know I would want. Also I do not know what part of the country you are in. We live in Minnesota so messy cold wet snowy things we need a spot to dump them(voice to text). We also have lots of dirt and gravel and that sort of thing. -First off I would want an entrance directly from the outdoors, that's a family entrance with a large closet, either open or closed lockers lots of Boot & Shoe storage. -With five kiddos I would prefer laundry near their bedrooms. -I would not want a laundry walkthrough from the garage ALTHOUGH a 2nd laundry for dirty barn clothes near family entrance is wonderful! No extra carrying of messy clothes to laundry. My laundry room is never pinterest-worthy ;) and I like to be able to shut the door not think about that :) - master bedroom closet, I do not see one. - Closet in your entryway. Again I'm not sure what part of the country are in so maybe you don't need to have storage for company's coats but you do have a big extended family so?? Would you be having hooks on the walls or??? - do you need a bathroom that your Ranch hands use or is that in one of your outbuildings? - I love the idea of an office space with books, I would think of it more as a library do you think that you would utilize that space with all that desk area or would you rather have it a reading Nook? Absolutely love using two 30 inch ranges. In my opinion it is the perfect way to get a 60 inch range for an excellent price point....See More12x14 Living Room Layout
Comments (8)IMO you just have too much stuff you are trying to fit , start with the sofa and the chair and if you must the piano thats it add a coffee table and some end tables or floor lamps .Is there going to be a TV in this space ? in spaces where it feels tight with furniture I find keeping everything low works better than tall pieces so I would look for a better place for the bookcase if it is truly needed . It could go in the DR since that spot is actually larger . There is no way that sofa can float in the space once you add lamps there is no place to walk it really only has one spot and that is on the wall where you have it. I can’t honestly see a better layout in the space unless you put the sofa in front of the windows and it would have to be pushed intot he corner to make the space accessible from the front door. I think you were doing well just move the bookcase or get something like the Sapien for some books This way you have space for a coffee table an end table between the chair and the sofa on one end and another end table at the other end they can each have a good sized lamp on them and then add a piano light . When the time comes to get new furniture think smaller scaled for the space Hang some large pieces of art on the sofa wall and something interesting for the piano wall. I am not sure of your style but just find pieces you love...See Morefreethinker99
