Lookiing for quart or half gallon gas container
Comments (29)When I read about people carrying gasoline in glass bottles, it reminds me of when I was about 16 yrs old (Many decades ago). I drove a Cushman Motor Scooter. The engine and driveline was all enclosed with a steel cover. The kick starter came out the front right under the seat cushion. Just ahead of that, was a small floor covered with a rubber matt. I used to drive into a gas station with a gallon glass bleach water bottle on the floor between my legs. The gas station attendant would fill the bottle between my legs, I would pay him the 20 cents, and drive off with the gas. I wonder what OSHA would say about that. Can you imagine how many things I would be charged with today if I was stopped by the police carrying a glass bottle of gasoline this way? Those were the days when you could do most anything, no matter how dumb it was to do them. Charles Ranheim...See MoreBriggs & Stratton synthetic oil - $13/quart????
Comments (28)I have no knowledge of synthetic oils, However I have worked in industry for 50 years. In many things there are only a couple of manufacturers of a product, and dozens of rebranders. My first exposure to this was nearly 50 years ago when I listen to a customer explain how much better the store brand milk was than the name brand milk. I listen for about 15 minutes knowing that I had just unloaded the store brand milk from the name brand truck and knew the store brand was bottled in the name brand facility. I know at one time Buick, Olds and Pontiac were assembled on the same production line, sometime three cars coming down the line in that order. (Columbus Ohio Fisher Plant) I use to work in a company that made bulk vitamins, (Bulk means tons). We sold our bulk to many rebranders who put our bulk in their 250 gram bottles and claimed it was better than another customer who also bought our bulk product and put it in his 250 gram bottles. By the way in the case of our Vitamin C the same bulk went into a bottles of fruit fresh. The point is you should be buying products by its specifications, its ingredient list, or other means of comparison, not loyally following a brand....See MoreWhy do they say, '23 quart pressure canner...'?
Comments (6)If you use the pressure canner for a boiling water bath, the water must be 2 inches over the tops of the jars. The jars also need to be raised off the bottom. For pressure canning, you do not fill the canner with water, as it only needs an inch or two and thats it. The 23 quart model can hold up to 7 quart jars. Only thing is, Ball has made a change in the jar capacities to the metric system, so quarts and pints are slightly larger now. I found I can do 7 quart jars anymore and have to deal with just 6. A bigger canner is usually much taller. These can accomodate 2 layers of quart jars. Only problem there is the height may be too tall to fit a stove that as a hooded vent over it. The cheapest Amazon price for the 23 quart Presto I posted elsewhere is now at $72.00 and free shipping Here is a link that might be useful: Presto 23 quart canner...See MoreSalsa recipe: switching pints for quarts
Comments (10)I don't know of any safe reputably tested recipe for salsa that calls for quarts or provides processing times for quarts. You could email Dr. Elizabeth Andress at the National Center for Home Food Preservation, but I don't think you'll get a different answer. Their most recent edition of "So Easy to Preserve" just came out this fall and it still provides times only for pints, as does the newest Ball "Complete Book of Home Preserving." I suppose theoretically you could pressure-can the salsa for the longest time of any ingredient in the mixture, so for onions you'd be talking 40 minutes 10 or 11-pounds pressure for quarts. Or, if the recipe included such things as corn you could process as for succotash (85 minutes) or mixed vegetables (90 minutes). Notice I said "theoretically." However, oftentimes even with testing, quarts are not recommended because the processing times get so high the integrity of the product suffers. You might find with the salsa that the texture is too soft or that the flavors go flat. Carol Here is a link that might be useful: Contact NCHFP for More Information...See Morelaceyvail 6A, WV
