Need advice from tile experts

Part of my family room and kitchen run over the basement and the other section sits on a concrete slab. Originally we had a strip of hardwood running between the tile on the seam where the flooring meets. We want to replace the tile in this area.

I was thinking that we should use a thin metal strip between the tiles at this location rather than a grout line, and I don't think that will look too bad. But I have had several very experienced tile guys out to look at re-tiling the area, and both told me they would just run a decoupling membrane over the entrie area and make sure to put a grout line directly over the seam so if there was any movement it would crack the grout and not the tile.

What do YOU think? This is a big job and a huge expense for us (almost 1,000 sq ft), and I want to minimize the risk of any major problem.
