Ham is a traditional meal for us, but I'm serving chicken pot pies this year, I order them from a fabulous bakery downtown, I could not make them better myself. I'll add a big green salad and some boiled fingerling potatoes.
I might serve a slice of ham alongside the pot pie.
Dessert will come from one of our amazing cupcake shops or the same place where I buy the pot pies, they have pans and pans of brownies, squares, etc...

So basically I have to shop for a small ham, vegetables and make a vinaigrette; I fly in thursday night from Florida and the dinner is saturday night at my home, a girl has to be smart , lol...
I already have tons of wine so I'm pretty much set.

We're hosting 5 siblings and their families and my parents. We're having grilled salmon with a little ham on the side. Added the ham to the menu after my dad said he hoped there would be ham for dinner. ;)

We're also doing asparagus, a green salad with homemade herb dressing and a potato of some sort.

Not sure on dessert yet.

Traditional fare here - turkey, ham, and all the fixings. I am expecting 25+ people.

For dessert we are having a less traditional Dairy Queen Blizzard Cake. My daughter is 16 today and ice cream cakes are a family favourite!

WIP - What kind of ham do you make? And what do you serve with it?

Has anyone found a spiral-sliced ham that isn't smoked? We had one for Christmas, but it was way too smokey for my taste. Love the ones from Logan's/Honey Baked, but not their prices.

Boy all the talk about turkey and ham has me tempted to change our menu, but we're doing a traditional styled first of spring Easter BBQ.

It's only the four of us, but we thought it would be fun considering how long and cold the winter has been, that is until it snowed yesterday!!! Who knows maybe it will be too cold still, I hope not!

Aldi's used to sell a very nice spiral cut ham that isn't smoked and was quite reasonably priced.

We have sliced brisket, (warm) potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, and then other various side dishes. For dessert, a Texas sheet cake. We also have lots of April birthdays, so there is a ice cream birthday cake also.

I'm cooking this year but the menu is usually pretty much the same - ham, mashed potatoes & gravy, baked mac and cheese, green been casserole, I'm really liking asparagus lately so we're going to have that too. Not sure what we'll do about dessert.

Lukkiirish...I'm copying you! It has been a long, cold winter so we are hoping to have a cookout- burgers, dogs, steak tips, pasta salad, garden salad and maybe make-ahead mashed in the crock pot!

dawnp- I will serve a spiral cut ham and lamb lollipop chops on the grill. Sides are Upscale Macaroni & Cheese, grilled asparagus, some kind of field green salad, a pineapple bread pudding. Lemon meringue and coconut custard pies for dessert. Starters will be toasted baguette w/goat cheese, walnut pieces, chopped fresh rosemary drizzled with honey.

Oh, and the spiral ham isn't smoky. It is from my local pork shop. I've had a Cook's spiral ham in the past and that wasn't overly smoky either.

Ok - you guys have convinced me. Ham it is. I think I will make chicken marsala as well for the non meat eaters.
Mashed potatoes, two fresh veggies, and maybe salad. I like to make mac n' cheese with the ham but I'm trying to serve things that will go with both the chicken and the ham.

Dessert will be homemade- rice pudding, lemon or carrot cake, and maybe some cookies for the kids.

I think I better get busy making a shopping list now.

We usually do lamb, but this year it may be ham-easier! Our Harris Teeter has good spiral hams-not smoked. Seems most grocery stores do carry them these days which is nice.

Cyn- Yes, Chicken is definitely meat! I should have said meat from mammals. My MIL won't eat beef, pork, ham, lamb...

Not doing Easter dinner here this year. The kids have plans elsewhere. Maybe Rob and I will take a drive in our gas sipping Prius, take a hike and have a picnic.

We have both DH's family and my family come to Easter, and also some friends, neighbors and any "orphans" -- people who don't have anywhere to go on Easter, like roommates and away-from-home students. We usually have around 30 people. I'm making a classic baked ham, a grilled leg of lamb, and a big pot of meat-free spicy beans (we have several vegetarians in the group). Everyone brings side dishes and appetizers, which include potatoes au gratin and asparagus, salads, and cupcakes for dessert.

It's more of a casual party than a sit-down dinner, and we celebrate the spring and being with each other. We have an egg hunt for the kids and play bocce, and have a fire in the fire pit. We've had a cool wet spring, so even with Easter being late this year, I'm hoping the weather will cooperate so we can be outside.

Fajitas! I might even make some brownies and homemade ice cream.

itsawrap - I'll pick you up on the way to w-i-p's house.

We'll only have 7 with DH's family. The meal is always exactly the same, which disappoints and depresses me but it's how they like/want/expect it. I've learned to go with the flow with them and then join my family later for food I like. And a glass of wine.

I'll make ham (which I don't eat & that fact is still a topic of conversation every year now for over 15 years) and the mashed potatoes. They bring the sides & dessert.

Luckily, they always eat at 1 pm so I can go to my sister's for dinner. I have no idea what she's serving but it won't be ham.

It looks like there is rain in the forecast for Sunday. If so, DH and I plan to see 'Water For Elephants' for the afternoon showing.

It will be just DH and me and the kids this year. We are having ham, potato salad, asparagus, green salad, fresh fruit, and German Chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. The 24th is also our oldest DS' 22nd birthday, so the cake is for him.

itsawrap - Upscale Mac&Cheese is a recipe I found years ago in Bon Appetit magazine. Super simple, and I try to find a minute in the morning to post the recipe. The white sauce gets blue cheese, and you use celery and chopped red bell pepper.

Besides going well with ham, it's great for a buffet. In fact, I served it for my MIL's 60th birthday party (buffet dinner for about 50 guests) and everyone loved it. That's going back more than 15 years now. I've served it over the years since that time, and consider a keeper.

We are going to do a big piece of salmon on the bbq, a salad with greens, blackberries, strawberries and feta cheese, some rosemary/sea salt foccacia, and we'll have asparagus -and now I think I might add in w_i_p's mac-n-cheese! Can't wait to see the recipe. DD will make cake or cupcakes for dessert.

First we start off with antipasto, and stuffed mushrooms. Then the pasta dish, it will be homemade ravioli, courtesy of my Italian MIL. Then the salad, arugula sald topped with baked stuffed gorgonzola pears. Then the main dish, grilled lamb chops with grilled veggies, and a roast leg of lamb roasted with rosemary potatoes. All served with a lovely homemade red wine. I love my in laws, but I love them more after a few glasses of red :P DH and I are hosting this year to take the burden off my MIL who hosts everything. There will be 11 adults and 6 children, and 1 infant who is still just bottle feeding, no lamb for her! For desert mini coconut cupcakes and traditional grain pie and italian cheesecake. I'm most looking forward to the egg hunt with the kiddies though. I love holidays with our huge Italian family!

Sounds lovely Polly - holidays are all about family. I'd like some of that ravoli!!!

Ham here also. We're going to my sister's. I'm taking broccoli casserole, coconut creme cake and some type salad or slaw.

My brother and his wife will be in and will go to church with my dad Easter morning (our family's home church). My sister and I and our husbands go to different churches, but we all will attend and celebrate.

Easter dinner is my favorite! I have beautiful bunny salad plates to go with my traditional white china, with blue, yellow, mint green round placemats, and tons of daffodils to dress up the table.

This is one day that calories be da**ed. We're also having the traditional ham (buy it at Walmart, Sugardale spiral with brown sugar glaze, won't spend the $$$ on honey baked anymore), chantilly potatoes, asparagus, green bean casserole (my daughter insists), and mixed berry fruit with zabaglione sauce, which was a HUUUGE hit last year.

I'm going to a friend's house and have dinner with her extended family.

I usually prepare an appetizer, salad or dessert when we get together, but they are particular eaters and aren't impressed with exotic appetizers, so the request is chips and hot sauce.

I've never had it so easy. :)

Wow, you guys are good. I made breakfast burritos for Easter dinner, but it was just me and my son. He was thrilled since I don't normally cook. I did cook for many years, but now I'm retired :)
