Bed in a Small Bedroom - Help
Comments (32)Loves2read it sounds like your vacation house has much the same vibe going on. I absolutely love (and envy) that you found a faux bamboo set-- I watch for those kinds of pieces (even before the MCM house) on ebay. There seems to be a lot of it in the mcm/hollywood regency style available in FL. My biggest issue in needing to change out much of my furniture is that much of it is english country cottage/library-esque. It just doesnt mix well with the mcm vibe-- especially in scale. That said, I think thoughtful planning will let me go step by step through the house as time and budget allow. I know the kitchen will have a sleek modern look if not MCM.. and when I redo the kitchen, I plan to get the MCM dining table of my dreams. The office is going that direction now.. so trying to bring a little into the bedroom makes sense if I can find the right pieces. The main living space is my biggest challenge. I'd have to replace everything-- and I intend to-- but it won't happen overnight. I want to be thoughtful about it too-- because I want a warm cozy mid century look vs one that is very modern. Is there such a thing as mid century cottage LOL? No really, what I want is a layered look vs austere. I've seen a few designers do this BEAUTIFULLY with a few iconic pieces. That's how I'd want to go too. I've strayed off the bedroom topic-- but wanted to address your post and to thank you!! Would love to see photos of your vacation house. Here's a small peak at the swirled ceiling throughout the house. The photo resolution doesnt do it justice. It's all hand done and beautiful if you like that kind of thing. Originally I'd wanted to undo it-- but I am warming up to embracing it (especially since my grandfather did it all by hand)....See MoreWhite or White Wash Wicker for guest bedroom?
Comments (10)kswl, your post came at a perfect time. I slept so poorly an had a dream that I bought the white wicker dresser and added white crochet runners to the sides of the book cases to make them go better and added a white framed picture on the other side of the room. I am in the middle of so many deadlines and not sleeping at night from back and neck pain and now I seem to have this need to have my home neat and looking nice in all rooms and not just my beautiful Master bedroom that now is all matching. I do not have the cherry wood here in person and it could be a different shade also and not match and will hold less clothes and then if I move and the set is discontinued then maybe I will not be able to add more pieces of furniture. I think you are right that my first impression that the wicker dresser is grown up looking, fresh and pretty and is very versatile in matching other colors and adding on white wicker pieces in the future is doable if I ever move. The dresser will fit that wall and if I take all the plastic drawers out from the middle of the room and that wall, it may look nice and not overwhelmingly too big for the room. I can make other parts of the room match the white wicker dresser by adding white in other places. I wish I was not in the middle of these deadlines so I could take pictures and post them but I am overwhelmed as it is in getting done my work and have been second guessing my decision which was based on finding out that I was not allergic to the white wicker hampers I bought from Fran's wicker and found out I loved the white wicker in my laundry room. Then I thought that maybe I should just get a wicker dresser in my spare room from this place that has wicker that is not outgassing like other places. Then I saw the size of the drawers of this set and they gave me 12% off and since I live in driving distance from the store, I could save on shipping. Then I saw on their website that the White Wash finish was a color I had not considered so I got confused if I should switch to the white wash finish and put the order on hold until I get a chance to go to the store. Hence, I shared the pictures I sent to the list with a friend last night and she felt I needed a cherry dresser. But to buy a solid wood cherry dresser usually takes ordering from a retailer that orders from a special company that could take weeks and may not give me a good price on one piece of furniture....See MoreCL Bedroom set...
Comments (73)Justgottobeme - Oh wow, that doesn't even look like the same bed. Thanks for doing that! Those finial things on the sides, would you screw them in? Not glue right? What about the cool thing in the middle? How does that get attached? I think they're normally pretty thin. For the cushion would it just be like making a large pillow? Using fluffy fill or batting? Wouldn't it get squished? I make a point to not sleep against the headboard but DH is another story. Then sewing some tie things on? I could handle that. As far as raising it up, I don't know how I would do that. Both the head and footboard are on wheels and there's currently slats that the bed frame rest in? I don't think the legs would touch the ground. I'd almost have to get some wood and make them longer. That could end up looking like a real botch job. :) I know DH has his heart set on a wood bed and deep down I want something "new" (used is fine but new to me). Plus we'd like to get a queen. I could try this for now and if we decide to go with wood I could use this in one of the spare rooms. AuntJen - Thank you! I wasn't going to focus on this room yet but now I'm excited and ready to go! It will be also nice when it's done because you can see the room (unless the door is closed) from the main bathroom entrance. I would like to have a home where all doors can stay open and look nice for company to see 98% of the time....See Morehelp with our master bedroom
Comments (26)I see a lot of wall space, with vaulted ceilings that add to the expanse of wall. People often make the mistake of putting up art and photos that are too small to do anything other than disrupt the view. Large--even oversized--art makes a real statement and you can easily move things around to change the view anytime. I am not connected at all, but several years ago, I started purchasing from art.com and then from lorazombie.com. Prints can even be produced on an unframed, canvas-like material that gives the impression that the paintings are original. (I also agree with the comment about making sure the lamps are large enough--for both appearance and usefulness. Dimmer switches are a "must.") I realize it's just been painted, but painting one of the walls a darker color or a darker shade of the same color also adds depth to a room. Maybe get a quilt that incorporates that darker shade, too. Along the same lines as oversized art, you might replace the little valance with full drapes that reach the floor, also possibly in the chosen accent color....See MoreiCustomSofa
