would you wear this outfit?

Going to an anniversary dinner dance at the end of May. I have a white linen knee length flared skirt, and a very nice dressy black top. Worn with black patent leather sling back toe out heels..wadda ya think? Too early for the white skirt, should consider a dress, or ???

I don't think the color of the white skirt would be an issue. My concern would be that linen sometimes gives a tailored, rather than dressy look. If it complements the dressy black top, then sure.

I would not wear stockings, though.

I agree white skirt is not a problem, but a dress might be safer as it is dressier for an evening dinner/dance. The shoes sound fine though....

As I matter of fact I do wear jewelry differently at my 2 homes! I can't stand cold metal touching me so I don't wear necklaces in the winter (from Nov to about March) at my regular home. And I wear one particular pair of earring almost all winter because they dangle but not long enough to touch my skin. Some of the longer ones end up touching my neck from my scarves & bulky coat so I avoid those. It's crazy but cold metal just sends a chill right through me and makes me feel colder. Since it's warmer in HHI, I do wear necklaces & earrings and even bracelets. I usually bring a few down with me so that I can have some variety. One necklace at a time, if it's bold than the earrings are smaller. One bracelet at a time and it depends on my sleeve length. In both places, I occasionally wear rings when I remember them. Your comments about gold & blue reminds me that I have an 18k gold ring with a lapis lazuli stone. I should dig that out and start wearing it again.

With her age and good body shape and excellent muscle tone: with all the other available styles out there, why would she pick a suit that is so unattractive - no I would never wear a style like that. Perhaps this model wouldn't either - she had to get paid to be photographed in it *LOL*

If this is still relevant, I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm delighted with your choice of dress – that color is absolutely beautiful! As for the necklace, I totally agree it's superfluous here, and those dangly earrings could be a perfect complement. The first option would be amazing for your image! I share your passion for jewelry, and I always find a reason to treat myself to a new piece. Speaking of which, I recently got a stunning Name Necklace Official, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. I won't need a wrap. I can count on my hot flashes to keep me warm. Planning to wear black boots, knee high. I know not everyone will agree with that, but it works for me. They are dressy, not cowboy boots. I have a blue necklace that I got in Switzerland years ago that I will probably wear. The blue looks off in this pic, but you'll have to trust that it's the right blue. It looks almost white here, but it is light blue. Also, for anyone following my earlier MOG dress saga. I am wearing my "original" MOG dress to a wedding in a few weeks. Since I wasn't in love with the rhinestone that was sewn to the V in the neckline, I carefully removed it so I could wear a funky/blingy necklace instead.

You are describing an outfit that will chop you in half visually. That is not flattering. The exception might be if you are very top heavy and unusually slender on the bottom half....

It's fine if you're tall. Most skirt/pants and tops "will chop you in half visually". It's hard to say without seeing it. Is the top long and drapey?Is the skirt high waisted and the top tucked in? Lots of ways to not look cut in half
An outfit I saw recently at a restaurant that was very pretty was a white dress with a made-to go -with-the-dress long jacket- same length as the dress, in black with white trim.
I wish I'd whipped out my camera as she walked by, lol, it was such a beautiful outfit and so perfect for this weather.
And it did look expensive!

Thanks for your responses. I was only asking if you thought the skirt would not be dressy enough or too summery , or white before labor day. I am not concerned about the cutting in half concept. the top is hip length, and the skirt flares at the bottom. I also have long legs, so I don't think there is a disproportionate look. I bought the skirt last summer for a dressy luncheon and wore it with a long purple crochet sweater with a same color shell under the sweater. got lots of compliments, but end of may evening is too cold for the shell/ sweater, and this would not look dressy enough. so I just tried on the skirt with this 3/4 sleeve dressy black top and liked the look.

The old (dated and now often ignored, thankfully) custom was ' no white before Memorial Day'. Since Memorial Day is May 27 this year, you're ok.

The fashion police won't be after you for that.

You have to judge if the skirt is more appropriate for daytime wear. Many white pieces are.

Have fun no matter what you wear!

Yes, you'll look lovely. I never wear dresses as I'm so busty and I would choose what you want to wear. You'll look lovely.
