How important is your choice of installers/finishers?

I think we have just about decieded to install Carlisle Old Growth Heart Pine (Country Grade) in our home. Now we are trying to determine whether to use our GC's sub to install it or one of the people referred by Carlisle. The difference is about $5-6k!! (The GC's sub is $6.50/sq ft versus the others quoted at about $9.50-10/sq ft)

I am a bit concerned because I have a little bit of trouble communicating with my GC's flooring guy --his English is not great.

I hate to pay a lot for a beautiful floor but not have it look right because of installation. Should we bite the bullet? Should I have Carlisle's referal install it and The less expensive guy finish?

Any suggestions on how I can direct the less expensive installer to make sure the job is done right?

Does it make a difference???

Thanks!

(Also--let me know if you have a heart pine floor and if you like/hate it! We have 3 young kids and a big dog, so I'm about nervous about using the Heart Pine.)
