Put it another container when I first buy it. ;) Actually, I've been known to zap them in their plastic since I put plastic in the microwave so little. Once or twice won't kill me, I don't guess. Although, I use the defrost setting or a lower power so that it doesn't distort the bottle. Distorted bottles make me think it's disintegrating pieces into the liquid. That doesn't sound safe or appetizing!

Yep when you buy it, pour it into a glass jar.

When it gets hard I cut the bottle open and scoop the sugar/honey out with a spoon.

We put our honey in plastic jars because the shipping cost and danger of breakage in glass containers just doesn't make financial sense. When we sell locally, which is most of our sales, we ask if the customer prefers glass or plastic, and try to accomodate the request.
Honey naturally crystallizes, and whether you buy it in one pound containers or quart containers, it will do what it wants to do!

I have no luck on the defrost cycle....the plastic starts to bend before the honey is melted.
I also have cut the plastic to scoop out the honey...
Well, I guess i better be looking for some quart canning jars because I have a half gallon bottle in the basement.

Luckily the brand I love is still packaged in glass jars. However I have had some in plastic jars and it's a pain!

Anyone else noticed that it's getting harder and harder to find anything in a glass jar?

Linda, I feel your frustration. Since I do a lot of "consolidation", I use a Bottle to Bottle funnel. That way I can sit one bottle on top of another and walk away until it completely empties into the designated bottle. I recycle choice bottles all the time that's one reason I have to label everything otherwise I would never remember what was in the bottle. DH has been a target of unknown substances numerous times; of late--homemade cat food in a Mason jar.

I also pour it into a glass jar if it comes in plastic. I buy local honey and it's mostly in glass quart jars, but in the few instances I've ended up with plastic, I put it into a canning jar for storage.

Love the honey pot, though.....

Chase I have been noticing it the last couple of years. Plastic ships better then glass plus it is cheaper. I don't really like it but understand from a business stand point.

I get my honey from a local and it is in glass. Good honey too!

LOL - I have two plastic containers of honey sitting in my cabinets, upside down, because the last of both containers crystalized!!

I find the honey never goes back to the right consistency once it crystalizes, however, I might not be doing it right. I try to microwave it myself, but it just seems to get "watery" or thin.

My daughter microwaved it once not realizing how hot it gets!! I make sure I warn people now, whether they already know or not, it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to burns!! Luckily she only got splashed with a couple of drops, but man that burns!!

I have a honey pot....somewhere. It was always a sticky mess.
I'm not so much about drizzeling a little here and there but more about adding 1/2 a cup to a recipe.

Linda, I get my honey from DS's FIL as a Christmas present every year. He packages in plastic bottles. I've found that transferring to Lock 'n Lock has pretty much solved the problem. I use a rectangular container that's easy to scoop from. And, Lock 'n Lock is micro-safe if it ever crystalizes.

Linda, Target carries it in my area. It's also available at Amazon & QVC.

I've gotten rid of all of my mismash of plastic storage containers & switched over to all Lock 'n Lock.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! Alert the media! Honey in plastic containers!??? WTF??????? This is more important than world hunger, global warming, economic breakdown and just about every other major global issue that is creating major issues within the western hemisphere and beyond! Good for you Linda! You are a good sport and I enjoy sparring with you....of course with the predisposed understanding I will lose every time. I get that and have no problem with it. You are my superior and I totally get that. No issue, no problem. Hope you have a great vacation!

Before you go, Linda, why aren't you supposed to put the plastic honey jar in boiling water? I hope it doesn't turn the honey poisonous or something...I do it every time the honey cristalizes!

I have the same problem. Currently I have a small plastic bottle and a large bottle of honey. I used to use warm water but it took FOREVER to soften the honey, and I could never get all of it out anyway. The only way I could get to the bottom was to cut the plastic top off. What a pain!

The small one has already crystallized while the large one still looks ok. I'd better pour it out into a glass jar. Thanks for the tips. Al

Boiling water is fine....but with a glass bottle I would put the bottle in a pan full of water and put it on the stove. With a plastic bottle, you do that and the bottle melts where it touches the bottom of the pan.

Our local honey harvester (is that the right term?) said, "Set it in the windowsill if it starts to crystalize and let the sun warm it." Probably woudl work fine if I lived in Florida, but my bet is it wouldn't work for me this winter...or for Linda there in her winter wonderland. :)

I pour it in another container. I won't nuke that grade of plastic. You don't want to consume PPE. Ick.
