I usually pop an ice cube in my mouth but was told that honey works. I hate it when it happens.

On a doctor's recommendation I use salt water with apple cider vinegar for mouth problems, but haven't tried it on a burn. It is 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vinegar in a cup of water. I keep it in the fridge and warm it before I rinse with it. Any vinegar will work, apple cider vinegar tastes better.

I have a slight abnormality in my mouth, a small piece of skin between my two front upper teeth,which hangs behind the teeth. I have scalded that darn thing so many times. My dentist offered to snip it but I'm sure that would hurt.

Oh Sue...my BFF just stopped by to pick up a few things and I asked him what he does for a burned tongue (thought he was the one that told me about the honey). He said to tell you that this would not happen if you only drank cocktails!!!!!!

I normally drink black coffee but What I hate is when I put sugar in my hot tea and stir it up,,then when I take a sip the spoon pokes me in the eye.

And ... how many years ago was it that you folkls (error ... but I note that it rhymes with "yokels") started drinking tea?

How long does it take for experiences to sink in?

Maybe stick a (less sensitive) finger into the cup at the start ...

... though how enthusiastic you might be about trying that when out for a fancy dinner at a restaurant is more than I can evaluate - wouldn't want to let the server see you doing it, I imagine.

Sue, I think a salt water rinse a few times a day. Is it really, really bad? Is so, you could always see your dentist...

We were heating a quick frozen pizza dinner at my SIL's beach house one night, not being familer with frozen boxed pizzas I told everyone 'better come get a slice and eat it while hot, it might not be good when it starts to cool'....

You guessed it, burned the heck out of the roof of my mouth on the first bite :) I happened to have an appointment with my dentist about four days later, he just shook his head, said he had a prescription rinse he could have given me right away. And that most mouth burns he sees will come from creamed soups!

I imagine you can only do the same thing you do with any burn. Ice it as fast as you can to stop the tissue destruction, then try to keep it clean as it heals. (Maybe breathe through your mouth more?)
