I Hate When This Happens!

I just hate it when I burn my tongue on some hot tea! I don't have one now but did recently when I had such a sore throat. Are there any good quick remedies to get rid of the pain when that happens? Has it happened to your recently?

I usually pop an ice cube in my mouth but was told that honey works. I hate it when it happens.

On a doctor's recommendation I use salt water with apple cider vinegar for mouth problems, but haven't tried it on a burn. It is 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vinegar in a cup of water. I keep it in the fridge and warm it before I rinse with it. Any vinegar will work, apple cider vinegar tastes better.

Ya I did.. And I have. Nervously soaked 'em in Oj (just like I do all other passi seeds) figuring if they don't sprout that's nothing new.. But to my suprise they were some of the first to pop up. So now it's a season of babying, hand polinating.. Maybe try some crosses if anything else is blooming at the time but I don't expect much luck with that.. We'll see. They say "don't count your chickens before they hatch.." Well, don't count your sprouts before they bloom either. 'Least I have sprouts. Finally.

I can't imagine that anyone who is raising funds would not accept a donation. Another advantage to a donation is that, depending on the organization, you may be able to write it off on your taxes if you itemize your charitable deductions (I'm not up on the current tax laws but I think that's still true, if it's the proper type of organization). "It's gotten so that parents don't think that they need to bear the costs of their child's entertainment. They've got money to go out to the local movie theater, concert, or other expensive entertainment on a regular basis, but claim poverty when it is time to fund extracurricular activities." Not all parents have the money to fund extracurricular activities. Fundraising helps make sports and other activities available to all children. Maybe you are being asked to buy something by someone who could afford the straight fee but that money is probably being pooled with other money so children who otherwise could not afford to play can play or to keep the fees down for everyone since everything is expensive these days (think liability insurance, safety equipment, field maintenance, etc). If they had to get all of their money from the participants, the cost might be prohibitive for most. Usually there is an opt-out fee so no one has to fundraise but some people are of the mind that it doesn't hurt to ask(but I guess that is not true from what I'm reading here - it might be raise the blood pressure of the person you ask!) Maybe you still don't think that's a valid reason to fundraise but please realize that people aren't usually fundraising to benefit themselves and only themselves and don't make your decision based solely on their financial situation.

Linda... use it in a sauce for meatballs? Maybe you could add vinegar for a sweet and sour sauce? I made a batch of cherry peach jam today but the fruit is floating, good flavor though. I just turned the jars upside down but it may be too late. I used pectin, I'll try another batch without pectin and see how that one goes. Nancy

I don't have that problem either..as I take the trash down after everyone else has left for work and school. Tomorrow(Wednesday) is trash day and it's Spring Break...I wonder who I can get to roll the can down tomorrow.

I have a slight abnormality in my mouth, a small piece of skin between my two front upper teeth,which hangs behind the teeth. I have scalded that darn thing so many times. My dentist offered to snip it but I'm sure that would hurt.

Oh Sue...my BFF just stopped by to pick up a few things and I asked him what he does for a burned tongue (thought he was the one that told me about the honey). He said to tell you that this would not happen if you only drank cocktails!!!!!!

I normally drink black coffee but What I hate is when I put sugar in my hot tea and stir it up,,then when I take a sip the spoon pokes me in the eye.

And ... how many years ago was it that you folkls (error ... but I note that it rhymes with "yokels") started drinking tea?

How long does it take for experiences to sink in?

Maybe stick a (less sensitive) finger into the cup at the start ...

... though how enthusiastic you might be about trying that when out for a fancy dinner at a restaurant is more than I can evaluate - wouldn't want to let the server see you doing it, I imagine.

I usually burn the bump right behind my front teeth (does that bump have a name?)

But I don't have anything to off you on how to make it feel better.

Sue, I think a salt water rinse a few times a day. Is it really, really bad? Is so, you could always see your dentist...

We were heating a quick frozen pizza dinner at my SIL's beach house one night, not being familer with frozen boxed pizzas I told everyone 'better come get a slice and eat it while hot, it might not be good when it starts to cool'....

You guessed it, burned the heck out of the roof of my mouth on the first bite :) I happened to have an appointment with my dentist about four days later, he just shook his head, said he had a prescription rinse he could have given me right away. And that most mouth burns he sees will come from creamed soups!

I imagine you can only do the same thing you do with any burn. Ice it as fast as you can to stop the tissue destruction, then try to keep it clean as it heals. (Maybe breathe through your mouth more?)
