Where to buy wood flooring- help?

I'm at my wits end. I'm looking either for engineered wood or a really nice laminate, and cannot find a place to buy it (DC area)! Lumber Liquidators doesn't have the right colors (we're looking for a medium brown- kind of like a golden teak). Expo Center's manufacturer of wood floors went out of business. HD and Lowes didn't have anything either. Where else can I look?

find a carpet one store. They have nice showrooms with lots of hardwood and laminate samples. They are generally pretty informed sales people. The box stores only tend to sell one or two brands based on good deals, not necessarily what is the best quality. Carpet One is a national chain.

Or, find an independent dealer who as a nicely appointed and stocked showroom. Yes, they still exist. Fewer than before, but they're not gone altogether.

Skeeter: We do want real wood but the reality is that we are on a budget and are trying to look ahead some. We could do real wood and have a 1.5 inch height difference w/out raising the other floor height but that wouldn't work well over all: we don't think it would work right and if we ever move in either of our aging parents then it becomes a tripping haazard. We could raise the level of the other floors but again that isn't really cost efficient unless tile can be raised that much using thinset mortar which I don't think can. Engineered wood floors seem like our best option. I like the look: some of the better ones look no different than solid wood. I've read that they wear well, too. But again we would not be able to use the nail down type or we will end up in the same situation that the solid wood floors would pose. We are going to have to find a good quality glue down or floating engineered floor.

The corner bathroom - that is a walk-in closet, not part of the bathroom. So you feel it would be OK to leave the tile in the hallway? It won't seem like things are broken up too much? With turning and mitering I am talking about where the hall turns only if I need to lay wood in the hallway. If I lay it vertical at the front door then would you continue to lay it vertical throughout the house or would you turn it when the hallway turns? My thought is we would lay everything one direction. Dh thought we should lay it so the wood runs parallel with the hall walls (necessitating a change at the corners), but I am really not understanding why you would need to do that.

Buying tiger wood online HELP!!

Last month we purchased Tigerwood online from BR-111. I called them a couple of times with questions and felt the support was pretty good. Ordering was easy. We asked them to hold the shipment until this week so we would receive it when our schedule was ready. So I can't speak to the actual product yet but I'd not hesitate to order from them. I did notice when I pulled up the product on the website that they raised the price from $6.49 SF when I ordered (and paid for) it to $8.69 now....pretty steep increase...glad I paid for mine when I did. Ok, so my DH brought it home and..... I don't like it :( Sometimes things have a way of growing on me but I don't think that this will. And, of course, the cabinet isn't finished yet so it's a bit hard to see it and judge with the cabinet looking the way it does above rather than the rest of the cabinets. My complaints - I think it'll be too dark. It's the darkest thing in the kitchen and it's basically the longest uninterrupted stretch of counter (the area next to it is 112 but that includes the sink) so it seems very visually prominent. I'm not a huge fan of the strips of wood next to the strips of wood in the floor. The finish on it is pretty shiny and somehow it appears very lifeless and flat - DH commented that it looks like laminate! I realize that this could be changed with a different finish on it. The positives - it looks really nice with the dark wainscotting in the dining room. It's not in the dining room of course but the view through is nice. The wood itself is pretty gorgeous. The colors and patterns are SO pretty. I'm thinking now that I need a different wood species. I think I'd prefer something that's more in keeping with the colors in the floor. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about sapele, mahogany, cherry, teak and maple. I think I'd probably prefer a plank style so that it's not as visually similar to the floor. Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!!

You can also go to an interior decorator with a store. Check the yellow pages to find one. They usually have many sample boards. They will order the material in for you like most companies. And they are usually quite knowlegeable about the products they sell.

Yes, those desocraters...um I mean decorators would have the sources. More so than Carpet one for sure.

Wow, I googled and found a link to the DC area flooring retailers in your area to go look. It was like a city commerce page with businesses listed(and certainly not mine)

I got an e-mail that the link I posted was spam for my website???

Oh, well??? I see they deleted the post and link.

Do like I did and use google to find your areas flooring retailers to go window shop from.

Thanks, everyone! I did find a local flooring store and they had some beautiful stuff to choose from. Now only if they were as cheap as the internet retailers!

So that's why most of the wood flooring is "Discontinued" at EXPO! We now have to pick out different wood for our DR b/c the Kempas we had picked out is no longer available...and it took us forever to find that one!

So Fausonk...who did you find? We're also in the DC area. Someone suggested Stroup Flooring America to me (or something like that) in Frederick.
