Am considering a wire brushed oak hardwood floor (similar to pic, but different stain).

If you have this, are you happy with your decision?

Thank you HerrProfessorDoktor, I am glad you are letting others know about the issues you are having. It is too bad you regret the dark, perhaps you could restain them lighter in the future? I am very fortunate as I have had dark hard wood floors in my last house and plan to install them again in this house. I love the look and had no regrets last time with care so I think I will be okay. However, I do think it is wise of you to post as there are others who may not know the challenges of dark hardwood floors looking pristine. zaccaii, I have 1200 sq. ft. of SUPERCore Krypton sitting in my garage. As soon as my husband’s doctor clears him from his surgery we will start to install it. I took the single box I ordered first and clicked it together in my kitchen in front of the stove and sink where I stand for several hours a day. It has a foam pad on the underside and is very comfortable to stand on. I had porcelain and ceramic tile floors in a previous house and there is no comparison. The SUPERCore is very comfortable to stand on to me. If you have reservations, why don’t you order a box and test it out. My husband has a bad back, and I have knee problems so we both wanted a floor that was comfortable to walk and stand on since we are in socks or barefoot in the house.

OK...the solid hardwood is factory finished. That's fine. It means that you can choose a solid factory finish so that EVENTUALLY you can get all of this refinished at the same time AND STILL end up with the same floor throughout. What you do is find the SPECIES of the hardwood and the width (and the thickness)...and if you can find the same grade/cut. Sure you can run it perpendicular to the hallway...so long as you are NOT on wood joists. If you have wooden subfloors the direction of the joists will dictate the direction of install. Regardless. So long as you get the same species in solid, you can always sand/refinish everything at once = same floor throughout the home. You do not have to do it today...but it gives you the BEST option to do it later if you want...or just before you put the house up for sale.

I'm not sure what LVT is. :) I have an appointment with the flooring person for Saturday to test out samples. Cherie, we hate forced hot air because it bothers my and the kids' asthma and allergies so I am actually very happy about these baseboard radiators as radiant heat is much easier on the lungs since it's not blowing hot air all over the place. There is central air for the summer months. We live in Northern NH... it gets cold here for sure. I am going to keep the tile in the kitchen for now and the rest will be new flooring *all going in the same direction* ! We are ripping out the red carpeting, which is in all four bedrooms as well as on the stairs. We want to replace that with flooring and we don't want yet another type of flooring in the house so it makes sense to do the living and dining room as well. When we reconfigure the kitchen, we'll have to match it up and remove the tile at that time.

I love this look and think oak especially brushed like in the photo you attached will be coming back. We are having this brushed oak installed in our new home, should be installed in the next few weeks:

Those are beautiful! I think we are placing the order tomorrow. Mine will be teak. Hopefully it will be hard enough to withstand our busy crew. I can't wait! Good luck with yours :-)

Xc60 / bshoe -what do you think so far? Do the grooves collect dirt? Is it hard to clean?

We went with 3/4 pre finished hickory with a cherry stain. Sorry I can't help you, I chickened out. I do love my floors though. No scraping or beveled edges. It's beautiful! Good luck with your choice

I don't have any experience with wire-brushed wood flooring, but I'm choosing new wood flooring for my house - all rooms except kitchen and bathrooms.

I brought home a sample of European oak (white oak) engineered wood. It has a rough feel to it - I'm wondering if it is wire-brushed.

On the positive side, it looks like it would hide scratches.

On the negative side, it is so rough on bare feet, that I would want to cover the whole floor with wall-to-wall carpet! I think I need to find something else that will work for my lifestyle.
