Am considering a wire brushed oak hardwood floor (similar to pic, but different stain).

If you have this, are you happy with your decision?

Lavanya,,,where builders make their money is in all of the upgrades. they charge you an arm and leg for something that you could get later yourself, for 1/2 the price. For instance, I don't know what you're paying for the kitchen countertops. (or how big a space it is). but you could go w/a standard laminate, no upgrade cost, and after moving in, have someone else come out and do your quartz. Ditto flooring. have the cheapest floating laminate done, no upgrade charge, and then hire someone else to get the flooring you want. Flooring is one of those things that you will be living with a long time. you shouldn't have settle or pick something you really don't want, just because you can't 'afford their upgrades'. Get the basic, move in, and hire someone else to do it. wire brushed is just how it sounds.wire brushing across the surface along the grain. gives it more of a grainy appearance. hand scraped is supposed to mimic the 'hand scraping' of the wood,,,giving it a rustic, uneven, hand made look to the wood.

Wide plank wood (anything over 5" in engineered = wide plank) is MORE expensive to install. It must have glue assist or FULL GLUE for install. This adds as much as $3/sf MORE than a traditional install. Let's look at that cost: $9/sf (might not be enough for 7.5" wide) + $3/sf + $3/sf = $13/sf Do you have the budget for $13/sf for the ENTIRE project costs??? Wire brush is a nightmare to live with as it often shows oil stains (cooking oils, dropped meat balls, spilled olive oil). If they are not cleaned up within 15-30 minutes the stain is permanent. Very low gloss floors have issues with showing SKIN oils as being SHINIER than the floor. These are all known issues with wire brush + super low gloss. If I wanted to spend $13/sf on a floor project, I would pick a high grade solid wood in 4" planks site finished in the BEST finish possible. Something like this would be worth $13/sf.

What is the finish on the floor? Some type of polyurethane or a hard wax oil? Were the floors covered with ram board , or anything else, to protect them? The most dangerous people to my engineered wood floors were the painters and their sprayers. The don't seem to realize the overspray travels far beyond the areas that they have taped off. I would ask the floor installers how to refresh the finish on your floors. Hopefully the people who sold you the floor are the same as people who installed them ... only way to remove one set of finger pointing when you have problems.

I love this look and think oak especially brushed like in the photo you attached will be coming back. We are having this brushed oak installed in our new home, should be installed in the next few weeks:

Those are beautiful! I think we are placing the order tomorrow. Mine will be teak. Hopefully it will be hard enough to withstand our busy crew. I can't wait! Good luck with yours :-)

We went with 3/4 pre finished hickory with a cherry stain. Sorry I can't help you, I chickened out. I do love my floors though. No scraping or beveled edges. It's beautiful! Good luck with your choice

I don't have any experience with wire-brushed wood flooring, but I'm choosing new wood flooring for my house - all rooms except kitchen and bathrooms.

I brought home a sample of European oak (white oak) engineered wood. It has a rough feel to it - I'm wondering if it is wire-brushed.

On the positive side, it looks like it would hide scratches.

On the negative side, it is so rough on bare feet, that I would want to cover the whole floor with wall-to-wall carpet! I think I need to find something else that will work for my lifestyle.
