Hula hoop or sport hoop, do you have one?

Do you use it and does it help with losing or firming? I'm thinking about trying one. What do you think?

I just got my hoop today, I like it!! Its 3 lbs and I can tell I had a workout in just 3 min. Hopefully the inches will drop off. I'll let ya know.

I have a very nice gas powered wood chipper/leaf shredder that can chip limbs as large as 1.5 inches. Bought it years ago from Home Depot for $675. I used it maybe 5 times and it has been just sitting in my shed for years. After all that sitting it will probably need a tune up. I am in Northern Virginia and would like to trade it for anything useful. I am interested in material to make a water feature, landscape blocks, edible plants, light fictures for my seed starting shelves, bee hive or will consider any trade offer. I don't want to ship it so you need to be within driving distance, i.e. virginia, maryland, DC, west virginia. Do you have something else you can throw in to the trade to get closer to the value of the chipper, like heating pad, large pots, worm factory, or anything?

I don't always hoop my article. I use sticky stabilizer or spray adhesive on regular stabilizer in my hoop & stick my item to it. To keep everything taut, I often use a basting stitch design first to attach all my layers together. I got those free & I think it was from Thread Artist. I don't hoop towels, knits, velvets or fleece. I seldom have to rehoop for lettering because I have a fairly big hoop. I did buy an item called GHIA (Giant hoop it all). I am not sure what machines they are availble for. The bracket on the hoop is movable allowing you to reposition within your sewing field without having to rehoop. I use it for long sections where I repeat the design or long areas adding other designs.

On the GHIA I bought, you have to use the sticky. Spray would not be strong enough. It does not have a 2 piece hoop. It is one piece with a movable bracket. You put that sticky on the bottom of the hoop. You have to cover the whole hoop even if you do not plan to sew the whole length of it. The stabilizer is what is taut & your item attaches to it. Your machine can only sew what it's sewing field is. You sew that & slide the hoop to the next section, lock in place & sew another section...just keep repeating till you fill the hoop. I have seen one advertised called a "continous hoop". I haven't looked into it. Don't know if you can go on & on or if it has stopping point too. I think I saw it along with a program on borders so it may work in longer sections than the 22-23" mine does. I have to play with mine setting it up for the next sewout. I have found it works best starting the fartherest away from you. That probably depends upon where the design starts stitching though. If the start point is at the top of the screen, then start at the top of the hoop. I find out where my needle will go first, then line the hoop up & lock it in to sew each additional design. It is much easier than rehooping. The only thing I have used mine for is the smocking designs which are just rectangular sections 5-6 inches long. I have to put enough together fit the bodice of my little dresses.

I do still have my red clackers somewhere! I had the ankle one too but it was not the lemon twist it had a red ball on the end. We all did the hula hoops, my sisters were very good they were older than me. I jumped the hula hoop. We also had these big bamboo poles that two people held one on each end and tapped them on the ground then together and we had to jump in between with out getting smashed by the poles, I don't remember what that was called, I was actually pretty good at that one. And remember pick up sticks?Pick-up sticks I still have my Chinese fortune telling sticks too. They come in a canister and you would gently shake the can till one stick fell out. Each one had a fortune on it. the Foo Chu those are the exact ones I still have lol. Did anyone else have a Frosty snow cone maker? shaped like Frosty the snow man and you put ice cubes in and cranked it and it shaved the ice to make snow cones. I had the coke fountain too have no idea where that is because it would probably have some value.

Oh Yes! I discovered hooping in March and in one month lost one inch off my waist. Using the hoop has completely reshaped my midsection. In fact I won a "fat to fit" contest at my gym, which was based on percentage of body fat lost. I only lost 10 lbs, but went from 28.9% to 19.1% body fat. I posted about hooping several times on the Home Decorating forum (Conversations side). I have several hoops now, but started with the 3 lb Acu hoop like the one pictured above. My most recent hoop is the travel hoop from Hoopnotica.com. I also got a couple of videos from them. If you buy from Hoopnotica use this code for a discount - TS0926. I can't say enough good things about hooping. It is a fun way to exercise that I can do at home while watching TV. I find it very enjoyable. I am 52 years old and wore a bikini on my last vacation to Mexico.

The hoops at hoopnotica look very light weight are the? Do you like them better then the sport hoop? Do you have a routine or just hoop like when we were kids? Thanks.

The Hoopnotica hoops are lighter than the Sports hoops, which may make them a little harder for a beginner to use, but would be less likely to cause bruising. (I did get a small bruise my first week or so of using the sport hoop) I wanted to learn to do more than just waist hooping, so I needed a lighter weight, non "wavy" hoop. And contrary to other types of exercise a lighter hoop actually gives you a better workout, since you need to work harder to keep it going. The larger, heavier hoops create momentum, making them easier for hooping. The Hoopnotica instructional DVDs are great for learning the basics and more. I still mostly just waist hoop, but am working on some hoop dance moves. I like to wear wrist weights while I hoop to tone my arms up. A couple of times a week I break up my hooping with weight lifting. I usually hoop during a TV show and lift weights during the commercials.
