Justice system already seems to have decided:

Seventeen-year-old De'Marquis Elkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder, along with a 14-year-old who was not identified because he is a juvenile, Police Chief Tobe Green said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the boys had attorneys.

The baby looked like such a sweet little boy. Truly unbelievable that they could just walk up to the baby and shoot him in the head. A life sentence isn't enough for these teens ...

I read that but guess it didn't register, thank you Beagles. Like any one I get frustrated or angry when I read about these sort of things but this one has me really shaken and just speechless.

I was almost physically ill when I saw that story...

.....and yet there are people who oppose the death-penalty. It can't come soon enough in this case. The term "Untermenschen" definitely applies here.

In cases like this however, I don't care. Garbage like that should be thrown away....

I read in the paper this morning that the mother picked out the picture of the 17 year-old from an array of 25 (or 24?)photos. His mother, however, says he was at home eating breakfast at the time. Hmmm...

I agree that it makes one feel ill to read something like this.

Extremely strange. There are no witnesses either. Does anyone have a link to coverage that has details of the event? What I read was no witnesses and a relative says the boys were with her until 11am. How could no one hear shots or see something. I hope there's more to go on than the line up id.

The whole thing is sickening.

Unfortunately, I can believe that something so heinous can occur. Too many people, outside our cocoon of reality, are capable of things like this.

I'm just not sure if these are the right boys. I'm reserving judgement yet, but I tend to believe the mother's account of what happened. I've read too many news vine comments that initially called out the mother as a Susan Smith.

In 2008 West also had an 18 yo son stabbed to death.

I have since come across one that said the witnesses did hear the shooting itself. I'm surprised no seems to have seen anything or that no one else was around.

Reporting is early so is probably not very accurate.

I think they should wait before plastering names and faces in the news. They are finding that eye witness accounts and face recognition are often wrong.

I don't believe in condemning before trial and am trying hard to avoid doing that, but Faron put my feelings to words very well. It is beyond my comprehension how anyone of any age could do that to an innocent child.

It is beyond comprehension to me how someone could either hate that much or place no value on human life. I am also waiting to see what unfolds. I hope they are able to find the gun or other hard evidence, so the wrong party isn't punished. I believe eye witness ID's have been found to be wrong in a high percentage of cases. Before the teens were arrested, the mother of the baby thought the younger suspect was possibly a five yr. old (the younger one arrested is actually a 14 yr. old).

The really weird part is she lost her first son, 18, when he was stabbed in NJ. What are the odds? This is so sad.

It seems first son and some friends got together to attack another kids (victim). First son went armed with a knife. Victim was able to get a hold of the knife during the attack and killed "first son". Victim was not charged because it was self defense.

It seems the family now has a history of finding or attracting trouble. Not sure what to think of the way first son was raised or the type of person/adult he was turning into ...

Regardless of the mother's history (or the issues surrounding the other death) this baby nor his didn't deserve to fall prey to two thugs as he was being strolled down the street. I know the topic has been discussed many times but it just seems like the unthinkable is becoming more and more common in our society. I don't think it's always been this way and we just hear about it more because of the Internet. And I really don't know what the answer is to fix it. What I do know for sure though is that since local municipalities are laying off police officers and cutting back on city services, it realistically could get worse.

I totally agree with you Lukki. I hope we don't have comments re: the shooter's age and his identity being given. I hope we don't have arguments about his maturity, etc. I don't know that someone who could shoot a 13-month old BABY in the FACE is capable of being rehabilitated.

I do believe there are people out there who are just plain evil and they will never be rehabilitated. Charles Manson is one.

My comment meant that no one has been convicted yet to be plastering names and faces in the news. What if they've got the wrong guys. The media is totally irresponsible with these types of things, in many ways. We don't want copycat killers getting ideas either.

I remember when neighborhood watch programs were really getting popular in both old and new neighborhoods. People watched out for their neighborhoods as a whole and weren't so scared to get involved. It doesn't seem like its that way as much any more, but with the cutting back on law enforcement, maybe it's something that will gain popularity again.
