Comments (14)I like foggyi's suggestions about stations at a community center or maybe a church since you aren't serving alcohol.Have 3 different cakes one at each station.One an anniversary cake, one 40 years on the job and a 60th birthday cake for your bride(loved that you still call her that after 20 years) Have the catering staff stand at each station serving your guests and replenishing the food. Have a videographer there to make a video of the night and a photographer taking picks at another station...kinda like prom pictures. Have a DJ there playing you and your bride's type of music. Let the DJ take requests and dance with your bride. Have the photographer take pics of the both of you cutting your anniversary cake, a pic of you cutting your work cake and then your bride cutting her birthday cake..Have 3 different flavored cakes like a white cake with butter cream icing, a german chocolate cake for your job, and maybe a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for your wife's birthday cake. Request on the invitations that it is fancy party attire...or whatever you want.. But I still think foggi's idea of the stations is the best idea... ....See MoreAnniversary Party...help:)!
Comments (8)Refugee from the cooking forum here....and one "of that age group" who really resents implications that we are not able to stay out and need to eat an "early supper". While I don't do 2:00AM by choice any more...the people I hang with rarely eat before 7...more often 8, staying out until midnight and are perfectly capable of driving after dark....we eat pizza, tacos, and all manner of garlic laden and spicy stuff... Ok...got that out of the way! LOL! I think a 5:30 start time is too early...Ideally I would like 6:30 for a party to begin, but perhaps a compromise at 6:00 would be best, with dinner scheduled to appear at 7:00 to 7;30. People of that age group remember fondly standing around drinking cocktails and eating h'ors douvres as a way to interact with friends. I would do an open bar and have the makings for martinis(traditional kind with Noiley Pratt or Martini&Rossi dry vermouth) and Manhattans as well as bourbon, Scotch and Rum with traditional mixers....but most will likely drink gin or vodka and tonic. Will you cook the dinner or have it catered?....and how many people? I'd be thinking simple and stand around food, unless your cottages are bigger than most...I'd think things like oven roasted chicken pieces with a huge bowl of lightly oil and vinegar dressed greens, baskets of French or Italian bread and a casserole of perhaps a cheesy pasta or a pesto pasta....or something fairly light and simple.... Comments (16)I would post pics of the party we did for my folks (2+ years ago), but Sis is still looking for the CD the photos are on. *sigh* Also consider doing a PowerPoint (very easy to do!) on your computer and playing it on a laptop so that it shows on the wall. I had a lot of fun doing that for my folks. We did a spiked and a plain punch but nearly ran into trouble because the country club we rented fussed about the wine in the punch. Not sure if it was because we didn't buy their expensive stuff or if it was liquor laws. We also went to the "dollar stores" and to a party store---GOLD stuff was very cheap because it was right around Christmas---and we bought tons of little tabletop things (gold beads, gold buckets for peanuts and mints, gold coin looking chocolate candy, etc.). Bought gold candles and chargers very cheaply at WalMart and Dillards (of all places). Again...the holidays were our friend. :-) We bought big gold bows (very cheap) for the chairs my folks sat in. candle holders, etc. cheap plastic bells for the cake table misc. gold balls that we put in a glass bowl on one table gold candles - I think we took the "stuff" off of them a pretty gold votive candle holder thing we used on the punch table...See MoreHelp Me Plan a Party
Comments (17)We get kids at my grand's (just turned 5 and almost 3) parties that range in age from infant in arms to around aged 10. Unless the guest list is limited to a few close friends of the same age with similar interests I agree with Texas Gem about not over structuring. The best parties involve free play, action and water. Plus bubbles. All ages enjoy bubbles. At grandson's last birthday held in their backyard squirt guns were the big hit. Not little ones, super soakers. There were water tables set up and also a kiddie pool with slide. At his first birthday party which was held in a park the theme was old fashioned cowboy. Small squirts guns were provided there. Grand daughter's party was also at the park this year. Son-in-law set up an area where he made balloon animals all afternoon. Food was simple, chips, goldfish crackers, fruit trays and croissant sandwich trays from Costco. In the past they have grilled burgers and dogs and have done pizza. With pizza there is always cheese, pepperoni and a chicken veggie. Coolers hold soda, juice boxes and water. It's a party. No one worries about who eats what or nutritional content. The parents who have children with allergies make sure their kids stay out of foods that affect them. Parents of ultra picky little ones bring snacks. DD's friends still bring up her sweet sixteen party. Instead of the big milestone deal we went backwards in time. Held little kids traditional party. Musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, a scavenger hunt. I was in Dollar Tree tonight. They have a lot of butterfly themed party ware this year....See Moregellchom
