Smooth CE ~Elliptical Trainers???

garden_graphic_gal

I have been wanting a good quality elliptical for a long time and am saving my money. In doing some research on these, I have read that many of the lower cost ones (including ProForm and Nordic Track )are made by the same company and tend to have frequent need of repairs. If I spend money on this, I want it to last a long time. I recently found this link which rates and reviews numerous ellipticals. I wish that I could afford a PreCore but will probably end up with the Smooth CE.

Does anybody have one of these?? How do you like it?

We purchased the EVO Xcite elliptical (EVO and Smooth are subsidiaries of InternetFitness.com, I believe) last spring. Previous to this elliptical, we owned a Nordic Track. There is no comparison. The EVO is by far the most sturdy, smooth, and problem free piece of exercise equipment I have ever owned. We paid about $1,800 for ours and had it delivered and built.

Lindpro~Thanks. I was looking at the EVO XCITE online this morning but cannot find a place that sells this model. It appears that it is now replaced by the 500 per their website. Am I right that the quality of both EVO and Smooth are comparable? These look like the same elliptical.
I am so confused right now. I read several reviews (epinions.com)on the Smooth CE that complained of the bolts in the front breaking. Now the CE 3.2 is the new model yet it has pivoting foot pedals , as does the EVO 500, and I wonder if this will become a weak spot. I just want something that is between 1500-1800 that will last several years.

I meant the EVO 400 not 500.

My XCITE is almost identical to the new REV-600. The main difference I see between the EVO and CE is that the EVO appears to be more sturdy and the frame is solid including the bottom that sits on the floor whereas with the CE you only have legs. I believe the EVO is bigger than the CE (over 7 feet long) so it does take up a lot of space. The EVO definitely gives a longer stride instead of short and choppy which we found with most of the ellipticals (except for the top of the lines or commercial ones). I believe the longer stride equates to a smooth stride. My husband is over 6 ft tall and weighs over 250 lbs. so we definitely needed an elliptical that would support his frame. Also, my husband has bad knees and has had his ankle replaced so we needed a machine that would not place a lot of stress on his joints. Good luck with your decision.

Lindpro~~Thank you so much for your responses. I really appreciate it. I talked with my husband and he has also agreed to go look at the Life Fitness X3.5 and the Precor EFX 5.19 (each $2799) . I did locate 2 local stores (Fitness resource and Busy Body Gyms) that have both of these in -store to try out. Hopefully we'll go next week.
