Yellow Cake Mix w. Yeast for SinBuns

Made some dough for Cinnamon Rolls but made ,

Cinnamon Buns instead ( Alias, Sticky Buns )

With , Apples and Raisins.

I used the box of , Yellow Cake Mix, Ultra Moist,

That we talked about , a while back.

I added 1 pack of Active Dry Yeast.

Next one, IÂll add another Â½ teaspoon more of Yeast.

It was a 1 lb.- 2.25 oz. Box .

Called for 1 1/3 cups of water,

1/3 cup of oil and 3 eggs.

BUT

I used only 2 eggs , Â½ cup of water and

another Â½ cup of warm water, w. Â½ teaspoon of Sugar ,

added the yeast, to test for rising.

I put all the liquids in the K A and beat w. the paddle beater,

Put on the dough hook and added the box of the Yellow Cake Mix.

Beat until smooth. It was way too soft, so I added:

Â½ cup of Whole Wheat flour and

About 2 Â½ cups of AP flour to make a soft dough.

When doubled , I punched it down and Kneaded.

Meanwhile, in a 10 Â½ in. x 13 Â½ in . SS pan ,

I melted about 8 tablespoons of butter and cooled it about

5 minutes in the frig.

Then I covered that with Dark Brown sugar, Cinnamon, and

Drizzled some Pancake Syrup. Added raisins, & sliced Apples.

I took about Â½ the dough and rolled it out to 14 in. by 16 in.,

about 3/16 in. thick.

Smeared on some vegetable oil, Drizzled on some Pancake Syrup,

Put Brown Sugar all over and sprinkled a lot of Cinnamon.

I rolled this into a log and cut 1 Â¼ in. pieces and " laid " them,

Into the SS pan , on top of all the goodies.

Keep them spaced to allow for the dough to rise.

Fill in gaps with pieces of the log.

Baked at 320 degrees about 40 minutes, or until golden.

I basted the bottom ( top )with egg wash, after baking for a while .

Fini :

I had a piece of the log left over, about 8 inches long,

so I baked it, when it rose. Made a good Cinnamon Roll.

Couldn't wait !!! Cut it warm. Nice texture !

Somewhere between Bread and Cake. Best dough yet !!!

If I'm making the basic cake (white, yellow, chocolate, etc.) I always sift the powder mix first. I use applesauce instead of oil and I always add vanilla no matter what flavor cake I'm making. If I use the whole egg (I usually use the whites only), I beat the whites separately from the yolk before adding anything else. I've been told that my cakes have the texture of wedding cakes. Now as for variations I have added peanut butter and chocolate (a personal favorite) to a white cake, sour cream to a chocolate cake, strawberries to a white cake (omit water) and I am currently making pumpkin bars from a spice cake mix (which led me to your site because I was looking for a way to turn a white cake into a spice cake so I can double it). Use four eggs instead of three, add a can of pumpkin and a quarter of a cup of applesauce (or oil if you prefer), omit water. Bake as directed on the box.

foodonastump, I didnt mean it to sound like they are being dishonest, or trying to gouge the consumer.Its just a matter of running a business. I stated:" Prices of groceries as with everything else but jobs and wages are going up. These companies are going to raise their prices one way or the other." Gasoline to truck these groceries, and all the other expenses that go along with getting things to the shelves have gone up dramatically. If they didnt raise prices, then that would seriously chip away at any profits they are making.And we know EVERY business is in it for a profit or they wouldnt be in business.(Exceptions are non profits.) I do believe they hope the customer isnt going to notice the increase by making things smaller, or otherwise they would just increase the price and be done with it. But the fact is, prices are going up on everything.Its just "cause and effect". There is not a whole lot that can be done with it. Tammy

Here are two I have. Peach Cobbler 3 15-oz cans peaches in lite syrup (can also use cherries) 1 butter recipe cake mix 1 stick butter Cinnamon (optional) Preheat oven to 350° F. Use a nonstick metal casserole dish or you can use a Pyrex dish. Spray with a little cooking spray. Pour all three cans of peaches in the dish, juice and all. Sprinkle the cake mix all over the top. Cut butter into pieces and place all over the top of the cake mix. Sprinkle with cinnamon if you like. Bake for about 25-30 minutes. Serve hot out of the oven with whipped cream or ice cream. Apple Cake Cobbler 2 cans apple pie filling 1 box dry butter pecan cake mix 1/4 c brown sugar 1/4 c pecans cinnamon to taste 2 sticks butter Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large baking pan (9X13") layer the ingredients as follows: apple pie filling(spread evenly in bottom of dish) Sprinkle cinnamon to taste spread cake mix evenly over apple pie filling. Sprinkle with brown sugan and pecans. Cut butter into patties(cover entire top of cake) Bake in preheated oven for 50 min. Serve with Ice cream.

Martha Scott, I don't know how old you are, but I'm 62. I still don't think that adding a cup of water to a package of mix for gravy is "cooking", but I do know that a lot of the younger generation(s) just don't cook at all and this would be a stretch for them. There is such a proliferation of convenience foods and fast/casual restaurants and delivery services available that it seems "old fashioned" to some young people to cook. Unfortunately it's that availability and mindset that brought us a generation of children that think chicken only comes in nuggets and causes us to be the most unhealthy we've ever been. (sigh) writersblock, maybe it's my age, but none of my aunts, my Mother or my Grandmother who lived with us ever used a package of frosting mix, I didn't know they existed until I was a young adult. The only convenience food I ever saw was canned soup, an occasional frozen dinner, Appian Way pizza and Jiffy Mix which my Grandmother used occasionally for banana bread because it was made in Michigan. They were all terrible, LOL. Olychick, I have made the Hot Milk Cake into cupcakes, to be used for strawberry shortcake They worked OK, but I was careful not to "handle" the batter too strongly so I didn't reduce the loft I got from beating the eggs. Just remember, this is not a "light and fluffy" cake, so it won't have the cake mix texture that most of today's kids recognize. Plllog, my cream cheese frosting is simple. A stick of butter, a package of cream cheese, beat it together. Add as much powdered sugar as you want, the more you add the sweeter it gets. I usually use a pound. Add a teaspoon or so of good vanilla and a tiny bit of cream if you need to. You're done, it's frosting. 4 ingredients, maybe 5, less than 5 minutes. Plus you have a bowl worth licking. Thanks Ladies: My 2 daughters came up this morning, for my Son's Birthhday.
So I cooked a Turkey, which I will put in WFD # 262.
We polished of most of the Sin Bunns, along with the Birthday cake.
And I stuck( hid ) 2 Bunns in the freezer, for tommorrow.
They can have the store bought Birthday Cake.

Lucy : You are the closest. You can have one. I have the coffee ready.

I don't think they would make it to Ca.

Still don't know who I talked to about the Yellow Cake Mix, with yeast.

I bumped this up to see if you; or anyone else, had a simple suggestion,
for a Substitute, instead of using the Yellow Cake Mix.

I talked to someone awhile back, about using the Box Mix but can't remember who.

This made the best Dough for Bunns and Rolls , that I have ever made before.

If any one remembers who I talked to, could you please let me know, By email.

We are talking about History here, not just a Sin Bunn.

Can you imagine the FF going down in History!!! of the U.S.
They will have to make a new Flag with Cinnamon Rolls instead of Stars.

Now everyone stand, while I sing our National Anthem.

I can hear you singing all the way down here in Cleveland :)

I love how you added apples to this ... looks so good ! Don't know how I missed this, yes I do ... I can't keep up with this forum, and if I did no cooking would get done around here ... the food critic would not be happy.

I did suggest that I should give up something I love for lent, but when I mentioned cooking/baking there were load groans all around.

Lou, I have a question..what do you mean by "fill in spaces with pieces of the log"? Do you squish them in so they fit tight? And after you put the slices in, how long do you let it rise before you bake it..or don't you? I duuno..be nice...I want to try it and don't want to mess it up!

Uh, you did WHAT to the buns in the pan, Lou?? Then in the freezer????

I think that was me that posted about using the cake mix for buns.

My recipe is:

1 yellow cake mix (no pudding)
5 c. flour
2 1/2 c. warm water
2 pkg. dry yeast

Yup, that's it. You can play from there.
I've used spice cake for Cinn buns. I'm wondering about a chocolate cake mix, then fill with raspberry or strawberry jam. Or maybe Coconut Pecan frosting. Haven't tried it yet.

It is just the sacrificing, for the things you like to do.

When I glanced, I thought you were giving up love, til I reread.
Now that's a sacrifice, although I guess for some of us it would'nt be.
Makes it a lot easier for Lent though.

I don't worry it to much, because I'm always Sacrificing myself here.
Testing recipes,to be sure they are safe. I don't know how many times,
I put my life in Jeopardy, doing this for you women.

Really, I have a lot of cake mixes and wanted to use some of them up.
It would have been easier, just to bake a Yellow Cake but that isn't very creative.

I'm glad I did, because I came up with something good and it's easy.

When I rolled the Dough into a Log, I had a lot left over.
So, I took pieces from it, to fill in the larger spaces,
as can be seen, in the Photo. Just stuff them in.

I let it rise a little and the Rolls all filled in solid, before I Bake them.
I may try dried fruit next time, or just use Raisins and Nuts.
Because it was a little soft under the Apples.

Was I nice enough !!!!

I don't remember if it was in a Post or I just talking about doing this.
Anyway, I done did it and it worked out good. Took me a while,
to find the original Post. I don't want to go back in again, to look.

I guess the weatherman was right, we're getting Thunder Storms here.
I might have to shut down and find some flashlights.
