We Dont Want the Roman Tub...but what do we do??
Comments (1)You'll have to fill in the windows and vapor proof the whole area. That's gonna involve quite a bit of deconstruction and reconstruction. Cheaper if you are on crawlspace and can easily match the exterior siding than if you are on slab and can't match the siding, but not inexpensive in either case. Takes the average bath remodel cost of 16K to about double. Talk to some local contractors....See MoreWe pet owners are worse for the environment than SUV drivers
Comments (6)The researchers were simply stating facts. Very clinical but it doesn't cover the whole picture. The SUV owner probably has a couple of over indulged children, lives in too big a house, and buys every toy in sight. If we want to decrease carbon footprints, how about fewer children? I'd rather have a cat and a dog in every home than a child if you look at it from the carbon foot print standard....See MoreOT. Why do we always want what we can't have?
Comments (13)Oh, Daisy - I LOVE that picture of your steps with the little bunch of daffodils (or are they narcissi/jonquils? Sorry, I don't know the difference!) - on each step. Just stunning! I used to live in the UK and I remember the daffodils everywhere in spring - I especially loved seeing a whole meadow of them, sort of "growing wild" in the local parks (I don't know if they were or probably carefully planted by the park gardeners - haha!). I can also relate to your feelings of wistfulness - I used to live in Oxford and had all those romantic, beautiful Cotswolds English gardens on my doorstep that I never really paid much attention to - and now I live in hot, dry Australia and desperately want an English cottage garden (and am trying to create one, even though everybody local tells me its a lost cause and will only lead to heartache eventually!). Argh! I wish I'd appreciated all those gorgeous gardens I had access to when I was still living in England - can you believe that I never even went to the Chelsea Flower Show? I'm kicking myself now!! :-) ~ HY...See MoreWhat more can we do to preserve wildlife?
Comments (35)I just came in from the first firefly catching expedition of the season. I'm glad my daughter still gets excited about it, and I have to admit even at my age the sparkling all over was pretty cool. My yard is a decent size but still suburban and one of the most interesting (to me) parts is the back corner where I only mow on and off starting in August. I call it the meadow, my wife calls it the weed and tick patch, but it's always filled with better things than weeds and ticks. Crickets, fireflies, butterflies, and all the other less fun bugs that go with a lively outside all keep the corner interesting. It's not a prairie since I mow it, but it's more than a lawn. I guess my point is if you're mowing your lawn just for the sake of mowing it consider taking a break. The kids have plenty of lawn in front to play, but the back part is overkill and instead I just mow a few paths to keep it legit looking, and enjoy. Quite a few wildflowers have come in on their own. I pull what I don't like. Duffy that's pretty impressive. I'd be overwhelmed by something of that scale!...See Moreenergy_rater_la
