Contemporary Architecture: Clean Modern Lines in Rugged Environments
Honestly, the title explains it all; for once I do not have a lot of words. I'm going to be quiet and enjoy the contrast between the sharp lines of the structures and the irregular lines of otherwise undeveloped land.
Some use warm woods that fit right in with the surrounding living species while others use hillsides instead of grading plans; some repeat the flat horizontal plane of the desert while others stand tall against craggy coasts and Nor'easters. Enjoy this dose of beautiful modern homes. Oops, I do have a lot of words, I can't help myself, I never shut up...

Large and numerous windows allow those inside to enjoy the trees.
This home stands tall on the hillside in order to provide far off views.
I love that this modern house gives such a large nod to the vernacular. It makes a strong yet pleasing statement in the vast field. For some reason "the cheese stands alone" is going through my head now. Maybe I should have kept that to myself.
While the geometry is crisp, the green color and shades of the wood help this structure blend into the woodsy setting.
This building has a barn-like feel to it but has a modern feel. Thus it fits in with the rural setting but stands out at the same time.
C'mon nor'easter, I dare you!
I find myself stumbling upon this house again and again. It steps down the hillside, seemingly defying gravity and mother nature, and provides amazing views. The careful choice of materials is what makes it so beautiful to me.
Another gravity and hillside-defying home. The design literally plays with the steep hill.
I love that this rectangle is suspended one floor above the ground, and this shot is so fun because it shows it standing over the elements, literally.
Rugged metal cladding contrasts with the forest.
I'm so drawn to this mix of wood and stone on this structure. It's Frank Lloyd Wright meets Yellowstone National Parks.
A clearing in the trees and a structure that juts out into it.
The emphasis on the horizontal here emphasizes the flat desert and respects the mountains in the background.
An interesting geometric shape emerges from the flat plane.
Rocks and rugged trees stand between this home and the water. The structure has claimed it's own space and declared it with crisp modern geometry.
A first VERY quick glance, perhaps without glasses on, and this little cabin seems like it's been sitting here 100 years while everything grew around it. A closer look reveals that it's a modern structure. This is not easy to accomplish. Bravo.
Ah, I can never resist this aerie, it seems to find me on Houzz as often as I find it. This house has chutzpah, what more can I say?
