I'll discuss Sushi. Sushi will eat anything that stands still and chase anything that moves, like birds. She's a Golden Retriever. ;-)

Golden retrievers are the Cape Cod dog. I'm a Mini Schnauzer guy myself but many of my friends and neighbors have Goldens and I get along very well with them. They are easy goin'.

Actually, Sushi isn't as bad as Bubbles was in her prime. Bubbles ate small birds that collided with windows. One gulp. Now that she's 12-1/2, I don't think she hears them anymore.

I'd love to talk birds, tho. We are just a short distance from Elkhorn Slough which is a birders' mecca. My backyard feeder get a lot of finches all yeat round, which reminds me that I need to refill them tomorrow morning.

In looking up information about edible seaweed, the sorts eaten by the swans and used in making sushi, I was surprised at the nutritional value. Nori has more than 40% protein and lots of vitamins and minerals. I was not surprised that seaweed has so many minerals, as it grows in sea water. The high protein content did surprise me. That helps to explain how those large birds can forage enough food to supply themselves with the energy they need throughout the winter. It also changes my thinking about the nutritional value of sushi.

I understand Canadians get upset when people call them Canadian Geese. Apparently Canadians would rather not be so closely associated with them...and what they do to lawns and golf courses.

Jim, I've never known a Canadian to get upset when they are called Canada Geese, that's what they are.

They actually are fascinating in their migration habits, one leads for a while and then falls backs and another takes over.

Just can't stand the filthy little sh!ts and my idea of seeing them from a distance is in Florida !!!!!

I like how a flock of geese will always post a sentinel...a "Watch Goose", so to speak. Their communal behaviors are really fun to watch but, yeah, the mess is awful. Whenever I see a large flock I always am reminded of the first few chapters of Michener's, 'Chesapeake'.

Canada Geese are hated here in NY because they do attack people.

I visit a corporate office campus here once in a while. In trying to control these blasted birds, the campus facilities management installed many plastic wolves everywhere. Those wolves look very realistic, and they worked beautifully, for about three days.

After that the Management decided to go high-tech. They installed electronic proximity triggers which turn on a loudspeaker with loud barking whenever a goose toddles nearby.
Judging by the goose "gifts" around the electronic wolves, I assume that the high-tech strategy didn�t last that long either.

But back on CF topic: I Googled goose recipes, there are plenty Canadian goose recipes./ Apparently they are very delicious.

Are there laws regarding cooking your own Canadian goose?

Anyone who uses the wrong name is likely to be corrected, but maybe not exactly for the reason to which I attributed it. Just kidding out Canadian friends a little. Probably not very funny.

Maybe you can use some of you Photo knowledge to make a dozen or so,
Photo's of a Baked Goose on a dinner plate.

Place them around the Campus, where the Geese frequent.
Maybe they will take the hint , LOL !!!

Lou, LOL! That's an idea that could work.

But I have an even better idea. I think if a well roasted goose carved in wood placed around them will be more effective.

Do you know anyone who can carve realistic birds in wood?

Frankly, those not-so-swan looking pests are afraid of only one thing, ie. flying golf balls. Everyone golfer I have talked to claimed to have killed a few.

I don't like birds - period. Well, I lie, I like to see the Robins come in the spring and I like Chickadees. I bet swans are as nasty as the Canada Goose even though prettier. I am on this post because I just wanted to try posting a pic (properly and not as a link) and I have nothing to put up but I do have a bird picture my 10 yo. took.

cookie8, please tell your 10-year-old that that is a good owl picture. I like it.

Update on Geese:

I read an article on an Elimentary School having problems with Geese invading their Recess Recreation Area.

They were not able to use it. ( the kids could not tip toe thru the Tulips )

Someone made silhouette of a Coyote and painted it, stuck a black plastic bag,
shaped like a Goose,in the Coyote-s mouth and
placed it in the Recess area.

That ended the Canadian Geese problem.
