Well, I had it checked out and was told that the dvd player will need to be replaced - will be $89+tax. My hubby had paid for it in Dec 2009 as an anniversary gift, but he had his dad pick it up for him (Walmart), and of course, didn't get an extended warranty. Doesn't that just figure?! Also, within the last 2 weeks, I had to purchase a replacement adapter (to the tune of $70) as, of course, the other one quit working. When it rains it pours...I wonder what will be next.

OK. I am trying to picture your setup. I am assuming you have one Dish antenna feeding 4 HD Direct boxes, is that right? I thought that the Direct TV required one LNA/LNB per box. Is there a TIVO in this mix at all? When you say an HD box, are we talking about a Direct TV receiver? I was trying to draw a block diagram of your setup to get a better understanding of what it is you have in your setup. Set me straight here.

If only one tape was giving the "skip" problem, reason would indicate the problem was the "tape" and not the player. To verify that the tape IS the problem, play it on another player. If the problem was the player, all tapes would skip. pw

Can you play regular movies on a widescreen DVD player?? That whole "widescreen" just totally confuses me. You would all laugh to see me at the electronics store, trying to watch 2 TV's simultaneously and trying to figure out what is different between wide screen and regular.
