I bought lots of these a few year ago at TJMaxx after I'd finished renovating my kitchen. They're sort of faux All-Clad but very, very good for a lot less money.

I agree about the quality of Tramontina. I found out about the brand about 12 years ago on the cookware forum. I guy on the forum sent me a pan that I couldn't find at my TJMaxx. I was blown away as that was my first encounter with the kindness of a virtual friend.

I have found a nice collection of their cast iron brazers and DOs at Tuesday Morning.

Yeah, well somehow, just somehow, I found some space. It took me a good 20 minutes to move things around and I found new space which will magically fit the 12" skillet. I've been doctoring and thus have justified these purchases. Got one for my dil, too. She is still scrambling to make room for the 14" skillet I bought. I need a 12 step program for all the great cookware deals in January.

Spent a lot of time looking at the Farberwarecookware.com site which is 25% off til 1-31 with free shipping for $50.
Then I was referred to potsandpans.com which was more buyer friendly and also had circulon infinite on sale. I am lost.

Please let me know when the next meeting is for the 12-step program. To make maters worse, Berghoff, an exceptional brand of cookware from Belgium, has their North American headquarters and only outlet 10 miles from my house. I have to step on the gas every time I go past it or I will stop. I have had family members look at me with furrowed brow when I get giddy over the Berghoff outlet so I have learned to keep it to myself.

I love to take CF members there when they are in the area.

Do you ever go out of your way to go past this Berg-magnet? If so, never, never disclose that to anyone. It could only be used against you.

Just picked up my 12 piece set last night and am returning it. Now made in China rather than in Brazil.

Next to my All Clad, the sides of the pans are about 50% the thickness.

Will look at Cuisinart or others.....

I wondered about that when Tramontina became available at Walmart. My research (some years ago) also indicated they were made in Brazil and were the quality of All Clad so I purchased them piece by piece from Marshall's, etc. I have been happy with them until the installation of my induction cooktop.

Walmart.com is now carrying at least 3 different kinds of Tramontina stainless steel triply clad pots/pans.

1. A. The nifty all-clad copy which Cook's Illustrated listed as a best buy. These are being phased out it seems and there are currently only a few styles left in this line. If the copy, text, says it is a best buy, then it is the line about which I wrote, with good intentions.

2. B. A newer triply clad line but not nearly as thick as A. It is more expensive than A and not nearly as weighty. There are walmart.com reviewers who have discovered and noted these differences. One woman actually weighed and compared items from A line to B line.

3. C. Tramontina triply clad Gourmet which is also not as thick or heavy as A, and in some items, only oven worthy up to 350 degrees, rather than 500.

So I did order two 12 inch frying pans for dil and me and I ordered while the website still listed the A line. But they sent me C. I gave one to dil, since it was still kind of nice, but not what I dreamt of, and about 4 weeks later, I returned mine to my local walmart store.

I felt cheated. Disappointed. But not earth-shattered. Real life intervened and put it all in perspective.

My 22 yr. old daughter had a ski accident in Montana, where she is a student, and tore up her knee. We are flying there on Wed. for the Friday surgery (She is still going to concerts!).

That's bad bad and also sucky is the awful travel to Montana from Chicago, in winter. Five hour layover in Denver and then on a puddle jumper. As in -you are seated in row 16 and you think,-- wow, I got a seat in the front of the plane, until you realize that 16 is the last row! And you walk down stairs (in the open air) to deplane(for this O'Hare girl that sucks). Insult to injury, I now need a wheelchair to traverse O'Hare. Paris would be faster, easier.

This is the daughter to whom I am bequeathing my Pots and Pans. During which conversation, she said, "Pots?" Yeah, babe, pots. She just doesn't understand.

Bummer about your daughter! Funny, that's the response I got from my DD; I'm sure you were trying to cheer her up and she's "are you kidding me". I was just talking about avoid O'Hare and opted for Midway.

Oh my goodness, I was just reading about the Tramontina and find out your daughter's been hurt. Hope all will be okay with the surgery. Give her my best wishes for a speedy recovery! Hard on a 22 y.o. to be down.

I've got a sister in Great Falls. You're right - it's nearly impossible to get there and I've been on that puddle-jumper from Denver. Be sure to use the rest room prior to boarding! :)

Here is another link to a Tramontina discussion. I believe you have explained why the set I saw a few months ago differed so much from my DS's pot and pans. They're getting rid of the really good line, substituting one that appears similar, but feels much lighter and doesn't meet the same specs.
