I agree 10-20 seconds is absurd, and not usually the norm, but I have also seen it happen on quite a few occasions - although I do not have DirecTV myself at home. DirecTV now claims to have supposedly increased the speed of their channel guide with the latest firmware download to the HD models with their "All-New, Lightning-Fast HD On-Screen TV Guide." While there are a couple things you can do that may also help speed things up, they aren't really applicable here. This is a brand new install of an SD DVR. The dish was just aimed, the NVRAM does not need to be cleared, and it was obviously checked by the installer who didn't see anything unusual. On HD boxes, turning the "native resolution" off, and setting the resolution to a fixed output will at least prevent the delay caused by resolution changes between channels. The other things that may help are selecting the channel from the guide, as opposed to up/down, and turning off any sub-picture in the guide.

i have a 1999 philips magnavox big screen model #9p6034 c102 was watching tv and then it made a static sound and then no noise, i have tryed to turn off & on tv and put volunm up & down but nothing. the picture is working fine, just cant hear anything. please help!!!! it's driving me nut's not hearing anything thanks and the chassis model number is ptv835

Cable is a Philips HDMI 4x 1080+, 6ft. no wall plate. Laptop is an HP with Windows 7.x upgraded to the latest according to Microsoft. The laptop card is a NVIDIDA upgraded to the latest according to Microsoft. [Here it get a bit more confusing. NVIDIDA said there was a later upgrade but it will not work. The whole PC freezes. Have to uninstall and return to the latest according to MS.] We have tried to pass analog sound from the laptop to the TV. This will not work. [We can pass analog sound from the laptop to an old CD player while passing HD vidio to the TV.] The TV is a Magnavox 32MF23ID LCD TV. We found one software upgrade (32MF23ID/37)for that and it was installed.

My friend bought a SV2000 DVD recorder to use on her Magnavox TV (model # 25f800 7583) but the tv is mono. She connected the coaxial correctly, but the tv itself does not let her turn to AUX, INPUT, etc. through the remote nor on the tv itself. It only has a MENU button, but it does not work. She's tried channels, 2,3,4 and went below 2 to see if the AUX/ INPUT would be accessed that way, but no luck. Any suggestions?
