Is there something I can do with a Magic Bullet ;)

Does anyone remember the comic strip Bloom County and how Opus could never resist ordering from infomercials?

If so, imagine a husband standing in the middle of Costco, totally captivated by a ceiling-high stack of Magic Bullet boxes.

So. Is there anything we can actually do with this thing? I already have a new Cuisinart food processor and a "real" blender still packed in a box somewhere.

I hate to ruin his dream.

Black Magic is a very good rose, gorgeous black-cherry coloring. Main concerns would be total lack of scent and some susceptibility to blackspot, in my experience. It's a tall bush. I think a similar, but to my eye even slightly more beautiful, rose choice would be Beloved, aka Cesar Chavez. Also tall, also deep red, though a shade lighter but still an impressively rich red. Has a touch of fragrance that Black Magic lacks, but its not much fragrance. To me its a little healthier plant, but both are good and have modern hybrid tea bloom form. Both do just fine in the himid heat. Here in New Orleans, its definitely very humid and hot and summer seems to last 6 or 7 months. Mike

I am thinking seriously about getting one, too. The Reader's Digest printed an article in April's issue about "As Seen on TV" products. They chose 13 products and out of 4 stars, only 2 products got all 4. The Magic Bullet was one of them. But for me, I think the deciding factor would be to talk to someone who actually has one and get their feedback.

I'll admit, I don't bake my eggshells...but I buy local eggs, and wash very thoroughly (if they had salmonella, my dogs would get it from the eggs, which I also feed raw). But I would imagine birds would be much more sensitive to anything on them than my dogs might be, so baking is a good idea. I had read that the baking was just to remove mineral oils put on the shell to help preserve the eggs and dry the shells out well, not to guard against salmonella. I just wash them out well with hot water, then store in the fridge until they're really dry. Then I grind them way down into a powder for the dogs...since I mix it with their raw food (one of my dogs can't have whole raw bones, so it replaces the calcium). It takes no time at all in the magic bullet to grind them to powder, if that's what you decide to do. I actually bought the food processor specifically to make dog food with (pulverizing veggies/chopping meat). I can't imagine using the MB for that...it would take me hours with those small quantities! :-)

I have and use a stick blender. I make smoothies with just yogurt, frozen whole strawberries and banana with a splash of milk all the time. What I like about the hand held is that I can use any size narrowish container and make any amount I want to make at a time. I'll often use the end of a quart of yogurt right in the quart yogurt container. It does a great job of grinding up the frozen strawberries [they're the biggest and hardest fruit]. Then you just clean it by whizzing it in a container of water in the sink and it's really cleaned. I do take the blade off afterward just to make sure all is clean but it's much easier to clean that than a blender or the bullet. Plus you can use it right in your pots to smooth out gravy or to chop meat or small amounts of veggies. Also they're quite cheap compared to the bullet.

Rita and Earthly - Reminds me how just this past December my father went into Williams Sonoma and asked for a Rabbit. The saleswoman didn't miss a beat and came back with a Screwpull. My sister, on the other hand, was mortified.

I like mine.

Small amounts of whipped cream (yeah, it COULD go with the other silver bullet.......be quiet).
Quick chop nuts (oh geez.......this is bad) or veggies.
Smoothies and shakes are good.
Make bread crumbs as needed.
I roast garlic and puree it with some olive oil, then freeze in "pats" to use later (good way to use up a bunch that's getting past it's prime).

The whipped cream is the best though.....I like it fresh and it's yucky if it's sits overnight so I can make just a small amount that will be used immediately.

I like the fact that there's just 2 small parts to wash.

My son wanted one for smoothies but I couldn't believe the price. Too expensive for just that.

fenworth - HUH? Must be an inside joke 'cause I don't get it. What does Williams Sonoma have to do with a rabbit?

My DH bought one about a year ago. I use it all the time, although I scoffed at it initially. Individual milkshakes are good in it, plus chopping nuts and a lot of other uses I found for it this cookie baking season that I can't remember off-hand. I was bound and determined not to use it but use about 1-2 times a month. It's so easy to clean.

My DH got one last year for Christmas. Nothing a blender couldn't do, but it's nice for small amounts. Making individual smoothies.

I don't think it chops things nicely like it shows in the infomercial. Everything ends up kind of pureed.

On the other hand, I made baby food in it today and it did a fantastic job.

I do pull it out more than I do my blender.

Well I use mine so much, I'm thinking of buying another one. I make Homemade Salad dressing in it mostly. I hate store bought dressing. I use it almost everyday. I have made Salsa, Smoothies ,milkshakes, whipping cream, ground coffee, ground herbs, etc..etc... I think its the best thing since sliced bread!!! It comes with a recipe book. Diana P.S...and so easy to clean up!!!

Clare - Not an inside joke at all. Rabbit is a brand of cork screw that is (or was) quite highly advertized and sold at places like Sharper Image. (WS sells one just like it, called Screwpull, that may or may not be from the same company.) But the even more famous rabbit is a... uhhh... highly acclaimed "toy". In the vain of what I believe Rita and Earthly's comments were about.

I think my sister mentioned this over the holidays. Her partner is a bit of a gadget-fiend, while my sister is not, but even she said this was actually surprisingly useful.

I just wanted to let you all know that I made Ann T's Mediterranean Olive Tapenade this past weekend for my husband and his twin brother's 40th birthday party....in my Magic Bullet! It worked great! And the tapenade is delicious :-)
Also, I remembered after my last post that I made superfine sugar in it while baking Christmas cookies. So I do find it useful :-)

I use it to make puree's of vegetables like what Jessica Seinfeld does in her book, Deceptively Delicious. My family has no idea how many veggies they're actually eating!
