Urgent question. Dish Network card number

I listed a Dish Network PVR model 510 on ebay.

Someone emailed me and asked me to provide the numbers on the card.

I don't know how to answer that question.

Should I provide the numbers? Or not.

I'm thinking not as a security feature of the box.

Kinda like a credit card number for the box.

And I shouldn't be giving it to strangers.

Could someone educate me about this subject please.

I don't know why they would want the smart card number.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, has been able to crack Dish Network's security encoding system.

Still, I wouldn't give it out.

I'd check with Dish and see what they have to say.
Some people have bought satellite receivers off eBay and found out that Dish or (Directv) wouldn't turn the receiver on, becausew there was an outstanding balance on the bill for that receiver.
I may be wrong, but I would think it would be the numbers off the receiver, rather than the number off the card, that Dish would ask for when they tried to activate the receiver.
The purchaser should be able to get a new card from Dish if the receiver has no outstanding bill.

Sumerday you can get a network card anywhere quite reasonable. The link below is for Wintronic and they have stores in Stoney Creek and St. Catharines. I like the guys in the St. Catharines store, very helpful. But the Stoney Creek store seems less friendly and whilst I know what I am doing without help it is always nice to have comments made to aid you if needed.. The St. Catharines store is on Ontario St perhaps a mile south of the QEW. The Stoney Creek store is on the northwest corner of Centennial and Barton. I'm kind of picky it's probably my OCD.lol I already have coaxil cables going to each room in my house where I have t.v. sets. I don't really won't the service man going all up under my house, through the closets and such. Can he simply install my Dish and run the cable to my junction in my basement and hook up the receivers to the cables that are already in the rooms where I have my t.v.'s or will he have to run all new coaxil cables to every room in my house. I would rather him not. Just don't won't to have a big mess in my basement. I have 3 t.v.s I want hooked up to dish network. Also, will I have a box for each t.v.? How does the installation of the boxes work?

It seems that everything is more expensive in my area. I used to pay $55.00 for DirecTV, no premium channels. I don't have a cell.....my land-line phone was $50.00 w/caller ID and 200 Min. Long distance. I had dial-up for $21.95 mo. I tried the cheaper ones and they were dreadful! I now have a combo package which includes Digital Cable + Stars & Encore premium channels and Tivo for 2 TV's, High-speed internet (will never go back to dial-up), and phone service still with caller-ID and unlimited long distance, and I now pay $118.00 mo. Not a great savings, to be sure, but with more options. I think it is a rip-off, the prices these companies get, especially for phone service, and scryn......I have never had phone service as inexpensive as yours, even when it was bare-bones. That must be awesome!! :>)

We have had Dish Network for about 7 years and have been very happy with it. Last year, at a friends insistence, I checked out Directv and briefly considered switching. But after adding up all the costs I realized that I would not really be saving any money. And Dish's customer service has always been excellent. About a year ago we switched out our receiver for one that controls both TVs and we are able to record two programs at once while watching another recorded program. Love it! Another feature I love (Directv may have it too, but I'm not aware of it) is that I can do all my programming online! It is so much faster and I can see all the synopses in the same window. We watch way too much TV, but that's our entertainment. We also recently purchased an external hard drive so that we can store more programming and we're having some issues with that, but it's not Dish's problem. DH is working with the maker of the hard drive to work that out.

The system had no outstanding balance.
I had the system for 3 years with a 2 year contract.
I hit the dish with the tractor a few months back and it hasn't worked right since. So I switched over to cable.
Dish Network said the equipment was mine to keep. I removed the hard drive from the DVR and put it in my computer for extra storage. Works just fine. 120 Gigs. I then listed the DVR on ebay for $100 Buy It Now Free Shipping. It went REALLY FAST. I got several questions from potential buyers and one of them wanted to know the card numbers. He wasn't the auction winner so I told him it had already been sold and I couldn't give him the numbers.
I also sold the 301 unit for $100 Free Shipping (private sale).
I just can't believe the interest and offers I have gotten for these things.

Anyway, I'm now rid of both units. I have a 120 Gig hard drive.
I'm $200 in the black for it (minus shipping). So I'm happy.
I probably would have just trashed the units.

Now to check into what the multi switch and LNB's are worth.
Maybe I can sell them too. They are no use to me.
