Thank you all for your warm thoughts and kind words. Tootie came to us 7 1/2 years ago from a pug rescue association. Our wonderful vet said she was "around" 7 years old at the time. I knew from the start that she was special and that she would be my heart. People have told us how wonderful we were to have rescued her...I told them that she was the one who rescued us. We got her during a difficult time in our lives. DH and I were estranged from our DS...things today are wonderful and filled with blessings. She truly was such a gift and she was as sweet as she looks. She didn't have a bad bone in her body, she was that good. We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives and I will carry her with me always.

What a great soul Tootie was--it's clear in her eyes. We're truly the inferior species--the fact that animals have to be 'rescued' is proof right there.

I'm sure she knows how much you loved and love her, to the point of making sure you were there when she crossed. I know it sounds weird, but it's possible she'll be coming back to say thank you after a few days...I've written that before here, because it's happened to me and I completely believe in it...when it's happened it's been a great solace although it doesn't make up entirely for the daily physical absence...((((marvs)))))

Mrs Marv - How very sad. You were brave to be there for her at the end. My last furbaby died 20 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. He added so much to my life. My hearfelt condolences to you and your family.

What a sweet, sweet face. I am so sorry for your loss. We lost three (two cats, and then our kitten) within a very short span of time a little over 7 years ago, and not a day goes by that we don't miss them with all our hearts.

Thank you for giving me a moment to remember the sweetness of my old boxer Jake. He's been gone for over two years, yet I still tear up thinking of him.

Hopefully soon the sorrow will be replaced with joyous memories.

I had dreams for years about Calliope. She was a beloved dog who died at a ripe old age. I dreamed vivid dreams about her. I kept losing her in terrible situations; all dramatic, realistic dreams. Searching. Desperate. Horrible.

After that experience, I decided I needed to come to terms with the deaths of my animals. I guess I have because I haven't been haunted since and I have lost three beloved dogs since.

I made a shadow box for my dh. It is our first best buddy's collar with the tags hanging down. In the center is a picture of dh with pup on a rock near a high sierra lake. We scattered his ashes at the same spot last year. Dh mentioned the other day that it was time to go visit him since the season is changing. I placed a rock with his name and dates on it, look forward to seeing it again and being where I think his spirit is in that peaceful, joyful place high in the mountains.

Coming to terms with the passing of our pets is necessary and allows us to focus on remembering how special they are to us, whether physically here or not. It is not an easy process but does make looking forward easier.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I can tell by your words that you loved her very much and miss her terribly.
She was very lucky to have been chosen by you and your husband.

Your message is near and dear to my heart, because tomorrow I have to say goodbye to my beloved fur baby "Bill". He was an orphan kitten that I raised from 10 days old, and he's been by my side for over 12 years. He's very ill now with renal failure and I can tell he's tired and hurting from all of the daily treatments and injections. As much as it's breaking my heart, I have to do the kind and loving thing, and let him go.

The Vet came out to the farm to make things a bit easier for Bill and I. She was wonderful and I'm very grateful for that. But my heart hurts so much - he was such a huge part of my life, and I love and miss him dearly.
I have many rescues that I lovingly care for, but no one can ever replace my sweetheart, Bill.
