Has anyone noticed their tastes have changed?

I took my daughter to her favorite Italian chain restaurant last night and could not eat the food. It was horrible!!! Overly salty and just really bad. Usually I would have eaten it right up. But the white bread (hot, crusty outside, soft warm center) didn't do it for me either. Ended up just packing up my meal in it's entirety and bringing it home for her to eat later. And couldn't eat the ice cream either. My body just wouldn't let me put it in my mouth. I went home and ate popcorn for dinner. Not the healthiest, but what I really wanted. I told my husband it's sad when you go out to dinner and would rather be eating mac and cheese or popcorn at home!

Anyone else notice this?

I have completely lost my desire to eat bread. I wonder if I would feel the same way about pasta. So far, I haven't been tested there.
Cake and cookie type desserts also don't interest me. But even after more than 8 weeks on Atkins, I never lost the desire for fruit and a little sweetening of my coffee. (I've just worked up to the point at which I can have low-glycemic berries 3X per week, and I've had strawberries twice. But the good thing is that I don't want to overeat them. 5 medium strawberries at one time was just right.)

Did you used to be a big bread eater? I have noticed my desire for bread has gone up, while my desire for pasta has gone down. Also, I want more fruit when before I couldn't be bothered with fruit.

It's the processed foods, or restaurant foods that don't appeal to me the most. I looked up the calorie count today for the restaurant I went to last night and their salad has 120 calories. For a little tiny salad made of iceberg lettuce and not much more. Covered in fat free dressing. And the meal that I could have/would have eaten? 1040 calories. Combine that with the dessert at 180 calories and the wine I would have drunk ordinarily at 120 or so and my total calorie count for one meal would have been way over my daily allowance!!!

Is it perhaps the richness of the food that's turning my stomach?

I'm quite late to this discussion... Yet I would like to add-in my own 2 cents: The most popular reason is that lightning turns atmospheric nitrogen gas into a form of it, nitrous oxide, thatÃ¢ÂÂs beneficial for plants. So when nitrogen-enriched rain falls from the skies, it gives plants a boost. My hypothesis is based on information covered in a book I'm writing on electro-horticulture (& plant electrophysiology) - that an abundance of free-floating ions from looming electrical storms creates a charge imbalance on plant cell walls. This imbalance will lead to a wide array of physiological changes within the plants ranging from increased growth rate to increased pigmentation and photosynthesis abilities. Charge imbalances induce "action potentials" within electrically active cells in plants affecting metabolism, structure, hormones, and gene expression.

WOW. I guess I'm the opposite of the real daylily folks. I am just starting to get interested in them after claiming for years that I don't care for them. What started it was seeing a pic of Black Plush on WWF's website. I said to my daughter, "Whoa, now there's a daylily even I can love." It just took my breath away. I started for searching for these spiders in all the colors I'm hearing people don't care for - oranges, maroons, and yellows. To me that's the natural color of the daylily. I always had a soft spot (and a big patch in my garden) for ditch lilies, both the regular and the flore pleno. I also like the spiders because they have exaggerated that natural narrow petal form. To me, they look like a sunset in the garden. I kept my ditch lilies and old-fashioned dark red (like Crimson Pirate or something) daylily just on the edge of a shade bed to capitalize on that sunsetty thing. But now I'm ordering some of those gothic-looking spiders and creating all new sunny beds for them. I'm just loving this! Have my eye on one called Aztec Firebird - OMG... So, now...to the point. I am just beginning (with the help of my daughter's generous insight) to appreciate some of those other types...don't know the terminology yet...the dusky pinks and peaches and mauves with fat petals and ruffled edges. I actually ordered one called Winn Baby Dawn off Ebay. Anyone know it? It was cute. Now, I'm seriously considering ordering Kansas Kitten. I have just the spot for it, but it's kind of expensive. Never thought I'd see the day...

If it's 7 A.M., the temperature is below 20 degrees, I'm waiting for an outdoor auction to start and the only hot beverage they have for sale is coffee, I'll have a cup of it - black. Otherwise, I drink tea, hot or iced. My favorite of many decades is from a tea/coffee shop in our town. It's a full-bodied loose black tea called Russian Fancy, not to be confused with that smoky Russian Caravan. Another workhorse tea at our house is Twining's English Breakfast, which is great for making iced tea by the pitcher. For flavored teas, I like Black Currant and DH likes peach but we both enjoy Bigelow Constant Comment, which I think is a good value. Herbal tea is usually mint. Growing up, we never had dessert right after dinner except on holidays but every night after we finished the dinner dishes and cleaned up the kitchen, we'd have a cup of tea and a treat like cookies or nut bread. I revived that custom and we look forward to it. Most of you know that my best friend and I love to visit tea rooms and they have certainly enjoyed a revival throughout the eastern states in the last few years. I also have a lot of tea paraphernalia and entertain friends with tea parties. On Black Friday, I will be hosting a "Shop until you need teatime" open house like I did last year. Can you tell that I love tea?

I only wish! What I've noticed is that everything tastes better when you have a little edge of hunger. So, I can enjoy veggies or salad I might have passed up before. However, I know I could wolf down a half a bag of potato chips with sour cream & onion dip, with great gusto, like I used to do, and wash it down with a beer or a tall glass of Pepsi.

I have not had any of that in months!!!! But while it sounds good I don't think it would taste as good as it used to. Maybe the beer would, but I think, based on receiving a generous french fry offering from my dd the other day (how could I refuse!?) and actually having to spit it in the trash, (it was that bad!) that the grease and salt would turn my stomach.

I've noticed that I am more willing to eat healthy with a touch of hunger too. If I have easily made healthy stuff and am hungry... boy does it taste good!
