multi-room audio equipment

I have a question regarding multi room use of a CD player. I would like to listen to the same music,ie. CD player, as I move througout the house mainly the back porch and garage.

I have my current CD player hooked up with the 2 analog outputs to my home theater receiver and speakers and I enjoy the sound. The receiver is an HK and the speakers are Klipsh.

A friend wants me to hook up another receiver and run A/B switches and volume controls to put the music through to the garage and porch. I don't want to change the CD player to this other cheaper receiver because I don't think the sound will be the same.

He has suggested getting a new CD player with an optical or digital output along with the analog and hooking the CD player to both receivers.

Does anyone know if this might work? Won't one of the outputs have priorty over the other?
