I went the russsound way and I love it. The russound speaker switch I have has an A/B source. (so that would help you) It also matches the impedance depending on the number of speakers you have so you don't damage anything. I also got the volume controlls but I never use them. Take the money you would spend on volume controlls ($35-$60 a pop) and buy IR transmiters for your remote. then you can not only controll the volume from anywhere but also the CD or Tuner...

Most likely you need a speaker selector box. The box will have buttons to allow you to choose which speakers to listen to. The better boxes have impedance matching which allows you to select as many pairs of speakers as you can hook up. You could even listen to all the pairs of speakers at once, usually up to 6 pairs. You connect the box to your receiver like it is a pair of speakers. Then you connect each pair of speakers to the selector box. Then you select which speakers to listen to with the buttons on the front.

It might not be the most economical, but it might be one of the easiest. I had a traditional hard-wired system, with amp, impedence matching, etc. Speakers in all rooms of the house. Good and bad to that. I changed over to a Sonos system a while ago. SOme wireless, some wired. The thing I like about Sonos is the simplicity of integration with iTunes libraries, etc. My son copied about 1400 of my CDs to our iTunes library, couple those songs with the hundreds, if not thousands of songs that my kids have in their own iTunes libraries... The Sonos can access that music from anywhere in the house, even from outside. You can either use a computer to control the music, or you can use a Sonos remote, or you can use an iPhone or iTouch. I recently changed the house over from PCs to Macs, and with each Mac we got a "free" iTouch. So those iTouches are now remotes. Sonos is a good system, but for me it was expensive. You can easily hit $2000-$3000 for the hardware depending on how many rooms you want to integrate. You can listen to the same (properly synched) or to different music in each room.

Thanks for response technospeak. At what wattage or level does is the line considered no longer low voltage? For example if I get a small 2 channel amp to run the speakers, it would be considered low voltage....but if its a hi current hi wattage amp....does it then change to a need for a necessary depth? or is high voltage reserved for other types of equipment for power like landscape lighting or something else? You definitely exceeded my intelligence when you wrote about the boxes and blank plates and gaskets. I will need to google what a setup as you mentioned looks like. I can visuallize pvc running under ground but I'm unsure what the other entry into ground, boxes, and plates you mention. I currently have rock speakers but I'm now contemplating speakers to be mounted on my back fence. I think I no longer want equipment on the ground taking up walking area or on grass. I was thinking of converting to landscaping and so the rock speakers seemed like a good choice, but between growth of plants or if I never plant anything, speakers off the ground might be a better option for versatility in future changes. Unless I plant a tree in front of them lol. I intend to start digging this upcoming week. I had some medical issues which has caused a postponement of some things. I have to make sure I don't accidently cut into spectrum wires or att wires while I'm digging the trench. Thanks again technospeak. If you have some customer images or example of a final product or even the install process showing the pieces you mention, the conduit, boxes, etc... that would be greatly appreciated. I'll be googling as best i can what you said before I buy some pvc or anything else.
