Yeah isn't that ridiculous! They probably send it UPS too...which drives me up the wall! Comeon..stick the two popcorns in padded envelope..I'm willing to pay for and send it via USPS First Class. LOL

Any time you have to ship something, it costs like crazy!
What gets me is where is "Amish Country"?? They try to give the impression the corn is grown my people in overalls and straw hats driving a buggy? Likely not the case.
The local popcorn here....very near some Amish and Mennonite farmers is $.99 for 2 pounds at the grocery store....but it would cost a bit to send it to you....but not $10.64!
Check out the link....50 pounds for $16...or 12 2pound bags for $14...but who knows what the shipping is.

Wow, that's a lot! The absolute worst shipping & handling I've ever seen is for Salty Oat cookies. These are really fabulous cookies that we get every summer when we go to Cape Cod. I wanted to order some, but they cost $14.95 for 6 really big, fabulous cookies (which I was actually ok with as I really love them and consider them a huge treat), but the shipping was $20.37!!!!! OMG. No way was I paying $35 for 6 cookies no matter how great they are. I actually spent quite a bundle on ingredients (Belgian chocolate, etc.)to try to replicate these cookies, but I couldn't do it - my version tasted and looked like hockey pucks! I haven't however, tried the recipe Cook's Illustrated posted a month or so ago of their version. Google searches yield folks trying to replicate these cookies, but no great versions.

I have no doubt that someone will try to justify there web site but, anyone trying to explain them to me is relying on someone who is laughing his donkey off at anyone who would even consider being stupid enough to even consider there prices/shipping.
I thought people on EBAY were the only ones in the world with the nerve to charge shipping at those levels, but I guess the Amish have decided to exploit whatever they can!

I can't tell you the number of things I researched, found and started an order only to find that the shipping was more than the goods being ordered... sometimes even double! Needless to say I never complete those orders. I wonder if companies keep track of started orders that don't get completed.?

I order quite a bit from Amazon but ONLY if there is Free Shipping.

But shipping no matter where or with what carrier has gotten to the point of the ridiculous. Joe mailed a package for me last week and was floored at the cost.

yes, i agree that shipping costs are outrageous. i too won't buy things unless i get some tremendous deal on shipping. bothers the heck out of me, but i'm not a big catalogue shopper to begin with.

If anyone wants some good popcorn we have a company in a neighboring town that sells really good white and yellow popcorn at a reasonable price. I think I picked up 15 pound bags of popcorn for 5 dollars. I know shipping would be expensive but they do have smaller ammounts.

On a side note, one year when I was teaching one of the families grew popcorn for Jolly time and they brought me a gallon or two full of popcorn that they grew, it was awesome. When my dh was growing up they would ride in the wagon behind the tractor and dodge the popcorn cobs.

Here is a link to the company that sells the hull free popcorn. For mail order all that they have is the microwave popcorn, but I know that they sell the regular popcorn that is hullless in the stores.

Linda C, I owe you an apology!! When I went to read your response, I seen Amish and went "Brain Dead" for lack of a better word. I came back today and reread what everyone had to say and you were "definitely" trying to help! I jumped to conclusions and I am sorry! I don't normally become a complete idiot, but that company just &%$#@ me off so bad I blew it!

The reason shipping and handling is so expensive is because it's delivered via horse and buggy.

kframe19, thanks, that was funny. I recovered my calm enough to just go back and reread everything again and check with them and see if I had made a mistake. I hadn't as an overall reaction but I did with the Amish company in that if you place a large order, they have some "breaks on shipping".
I was going to go to the post office today and see what a package of there given weight would cost in shipping but I wasn't able to get there because of other commitments.

I really hope, LindaC came back to the post to read my apology, because I really feel bad about flying off the handle when she was only trying to help!

I'm going to be the voice of dissent here. As an ebay seller, I always add a handling charge to my shipping. You're not only paying for the shipping( 1lb package is 4.60 plus delivery conformation(.65 cents if you dont use paypal shipping), but you're also paying for packing supplies. I pack my items very well and I spend 30.00 on 2 rolls of bubble wrap. I also count the gas to drive to the post office and the bridge tolls I pay( I live in Ontario, but I ship from MI). Its not cheap to ship anymore!!

Granted, I dont know how much their popcorn weights, but even if it was 1lb, 4.60 would be the minimum for shipping. Then you have the carton, the packing material, etc.

PS: I have NOTHING to do with that company!!
