Horrible Wet Dog Smell in Garage

WE bought a house in December....In many spots in the garage it smells horrible...like a wet dog or my daughter says really stinky feet....we just pressure washed the garage floor and painted the walls....when I was painting the trim at the bottom I thought I was going to gag from the smell..

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of an odor like this!!!

We came upon the following solution one night. It was 9 pm, just finished a very long day at the office. As is always the case, the dog is the first to get any attention. My husband took her out to go potty, she's on a steel cable that funs 40 feet from the house to the end of a paved walk out. She got skunked. Probably not a direct hit, perhaps just walked into a "spray". Anyway, we call an emergeny number and they suggested the following solution. It worked immediately, it also removed the smell from her leather harness, hubby's clothes and bathroom rug. I have since used it for everything from pet urine stains to vomit and anything else that left an odor. Also worked on a large area rug that had been left in an area of the basement that got wet. Try this, it's cheap and may solve your problem.
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. liquid dish soap.

Dog smells are organic. Organic odors and stains require an enzyme digester cleaner. Odor Ban and Nature's Miracle from Sam's Club are frequently recommended on the internet forums. The cleaner must be applied and allowed to set to "digest" stains and odors. Keeping concrete wet and saturated with the cleaner is a must because concrete is absorbent. The cleaner must settle as deep as the pet urine to eliminate odors. Once concrete is clean and thoroughly dry, it can be sealed with a couple coats of penetrating masonry sealer.

Problem 1 : The urine odor. Try saturating the smelly spots with Natures Miracle or Odoban. Let air dry (keep windows open day and night), then have the rug professionally shampooed. Chem Dry comes to mind. Good luck. Problem 2. Regarding the behavior of the Nanny. My daughter is a self-employed nanny. She has plenty of customers because she is darn good and kids love her (and she loves them) . She is reliable, always on time, will clean up a little, make meals and feed kids, changes diapers, has her own transportation (Mom and Dad keep her car running, but she buys her own gas). Anyway, my daughter would never, ever have a pet. She owns a cat that lives with us (Mom and Dad). She had an apartment for a while but her cat remained with us. So, allowing a Nanny to even have a pet is OUT. Tell your sister to be very careful in her next hire. And my daughter's in New York, and not willing to re-locate, so I guess she's out.

Unfortunately, the products you've been using will not eliminate pet odors......they just mask them. You need to use an enzyme product made for cleaning pet urine/feces. I've used the one below and it works. Most pet stores sell these enzymes and they're also sold online. Look for anything recommended by dog/cat kennels! In addition to using the enzyme I'd recommend you seal the concrete after it's thoroughly dry. That should take care of the odor in the concrete. If the cat has sprayed the walls and the odor has seeped into the wood then that odor will be a little more difficult to get rid of. The OdorMute listed below can be used on wood also so I'd probably spray all the walls and the floor during the cleaning. I'd strip the basement bare since it's possible the wood and fabric on any of the remaining furniture has absorbed the odor. While showing the house you should move the cats and their litter boxes to a spare bedroom or the garage and let the realtor know that no one is allowed in those rooms during showings because of pets. If you have a serious buyer, they will return to see the room they couldn't see on the first visit. When showing a home, it's important to remove the pet and as much of its stuff as possible. It doesn't matter that you keep the litter boxes clean if the cat has decided to do their business right before a buyer arrives to view the home. Holy Dog Urine.....that was fast! Are you all always this prompt when helping with Pet questions? If so, no need for me to ever go hunting and pecking all over the internet when I have a question/problem with any of my fur and feathered babes....I'll just come directly here! Cynthia, Ok, about the Lime...do you mean actual citrus lime? As in, juice? If so, then I'm in business as my neighbor has a lime tree and the limes are always dropping all over her yard and mine because she doesn't do anything with them. If not the citrus lime, what kind do you mean? Joepyeweed, Does Simple Solution have a decent scent? Normally I wouldn't care as long as I could get the old urine smell out of the area but since it's a place to relax I don't want another nasty scent added to the mix. Although, it can't be near as bad as some of the solutions I've tried already. lol Does Simple Solutions come in a concentrate so that I can mix up a garden pump sprayer of it for the week? I'll tell ya both...I had nooo idea old, dried dog urine could smell so bad when it's been dampened with hose water. My gosh, it was infiltrating into the house a whole double garage space away from it. You are both great for taking the time to read my question and respond, and so fast. Thank you both!

When we purchased our house the basement was carpeted and the owners said they had a fan on because the carpet was damp as they had shampooed it. We didn’t think much about it until we purchased the house and at certain times of the day and night there would be this stench. We ended up ripping out all the ceiling and wall drywall and found that the Septic O Pipe was leaking that runs the width of the house. So every time a toilet was flushed it was dripping . We changed the pipe and now it’s gone. We also had a really bad smell in one closet in the basement, we pulled that apart and didn’t find anything , then we ended up pulling the landing off the staircase and there was a cavity where one of the previous owners had put a new landing over an old landing, there had to have been 100 dead mice in the cavity, it was so gross my husband almost passed out when he pulled it apart. Now we have no mice or gross smells. It’s really a buyer beware on some things, this stench was probably there for many years and the owners didn’t know what it was so they just lived with it. Never know what behind drywall.

there is also a machine called an ozone machine and it will kill off any odor just make sure you dont have any latex rubber in the garage or it will destroy it we used to use it after a fire damage to get rid of the smell and we even used it after cleaning up a dead body apt You may have to use it for two days tops but it is well worth it you can rent them from most rental places or from a fire and water restoration co.
