I have a PHILIPS TV, MODEL number is 27TS54 and tha chassis number is 27B800-7562 It have sound with a distorted picture (see attached picture) CHANNEL AND VOLUME BUTTONS WORK WELL SECONDARY VOLTAGE SEEMS TO BE NORMAL. U+=130.7V I doubt the distortion CAUSED BY THE bad IC (TDA9302I)(may be BROKEN) Can anyone please help me how to figure out where the problem is and how to do it. Thank you! I have the same problem described below with exception that I do not see a spark coming out of that particular resistor when I switch the TV on. My question is: do I have the same solution apply for mine TV? (the model is the same)(the chassis number is the same) THANKS Abigaly My TV (model number 27TS54 C101) is also showing similiar(I think so) problems. It shuts off itself as soon as I switch it on. I opened the backside of thw TV but could not locate the resistor you were mentioning. Beside the "resistor?", will be a number. This number identifies the part. You might check it closly to see if it's cracked. There are several things that will cause "instant shut-down". I suggest that you look at the bottom of the circuit board, under IC1500, located on the rear metal frame. If there are any "rings" in the solder around the connections, the IC is probably defective. If you have an ohm meter, check the resistance between pin 4-5. The resistance should read high in one direction and low in the other direction. If not, it's defective. (TDA9302H) good luck, pw

Hi, Pee_Wee, Thanks for your help! As you suggested, I replaced D409 with NTE552 and IC500 with NTE1788, as well as C557 (220uF/35V on my model). Now the TV is displaying only the top half (no distortion); the bottom half of the screen is completely blank. I checked the rectified output from D409 and D445, and they are -13V and 13V respectively. I've left the TV on for over an hour and no blown components. Everything is fine except that the bottom half of the screen is blank. When I turn off the TV, for a split second I can see a full vertical deflection, so aparently the yoke is good. Can you think of anything wrong? thanks, -- John
