Malt extract

I received the book "Baking with Julia" for Christmas. (Yeah!) One of the bread recipes I wanted to try calls for malt extract. It's a whole wheat sandwich bread recipe. It explains in the introduction, "There's just enough honey and malt in this recipe to bring out the natural sweetness of the loaf's whole wheat flour." The recipe includes these ingredients...

2 1/4 cups warm water

1 tablespoon active dry yeast

1/4 cup honey

3 1/2 to 3 2/3 cups bread flour or unbleached all-purpose flour

3 cups whole wheat flour

1 tablespoon canola oil

1 tablespoon malt extract

1 tablespoon salt

...and you follow the normal bread making routine.

I tried 2 local grocery stores, and the King Arthur website, and haven't located malt extract. I did a google search, and was overwhelmed with brewing websites. I didn't know it would be so complicated to buy malt extract. Where should I go for malt extract, or can I substitute something else? DH suggested molasses.

Thanks,

Sally
