A Good Apple Corer is Hard to Find

What has happened to apple corers? When I was growing up, I remember my Mom had a great one - it was the perfect size blade, i.e. large enough to get around the core; it stayed sharp; its handle was easy to hold. A lot of the ones I see in the stores are so narrow - how in the heck are they supposed to pull out the entire core?

Cooks Illustrated tested apple corers, and their two top picks were the Oxo and the Rosle, with the Oxo edging out the Rosle due to the Oxo's easy-grip handle. Well, I checked out both. The Rosle seemed razor sharp and likely to stay that way, but its thin metal handle looked like it would be slippery with apple-juice-covered hands. So I bought the Oxo. Yes, the grip is good, but it stayed sharp for a few dozen apples, then lost its sharpness. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good apple corer? Thanks!
