Cherries not good for apple trees {ag office says}

I just got an email response from my local county ag ext office. They said that they did not recommend planting cherry trees anywhere near apple trees, that "sour cherries are also good host plants for several disease and insect problems".

My plans were to plant my (already ordered) cherry trees in my apple orchard.

It would be good to hear your thoughts on this. Many thanks

Thomis
