help wih cherry and apple trees!

Hi all,

I just bought a house this past fall with an apple and a cherry tree. This is my first time working with fruit trees and I have a couple questions:

1. Apple: looks to be about 7-8 years old but the fruits last year were small (crabapple sized). I know it is a regular apple tree though I'm not sure of the species. Is the tree just not mature or is something else wrong? Is my age estimate off?

2. Cherry: I know this is a prunus, again, not sure of the species. (The prev. owner was very old and with failing memory). It has the striated bark and short shoots. Looks to be the same age as the apple but does not flower and bears no fruit. Have no idea what is going on.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!
