Cleaning up human vomit
Comments (9)OK. You might want to try this in a closet first, but for 18 years I cleaned spots off of my light gray stainmaster carpet with rubbing alchohol. That's it. Just rubbing alcohol. The Stainmaster people suggested it when I couldn't get dirt stains our of my carpet and called them on through their warranty since we had just gotten it. The workers got dirt on it since there wasn't any grass. They didn't cover dirt, only natural food stains. They suggested the rubbing alcohol because it not only cleaned the spots, it disinfected and didn't leave any residue since it evaporated into the air. Things that I have cleaned: Human vomit Dog vomit Dog poop Dog pee Beer Vomit from my dog Lady when she ate bags of chocolate chips from the pantry and threw up in 11 foam filled places. A crayon drawing of a rocking chair that my son drew for me on the carpet with a red crayon - "Look Mommy what I made for you!" Fushia lipstick stains from when that same dog chewed it up all over. By the way, fushia lipstick all over a gray floor looks like a scene from CSI Beer again The list goes on and on, but we would buy bottles of the stuff, just pour it on and blot and clean until it was gone. Now, our pad and carpet were on top of cement, so that is another thing to consider. All other cleaners seemed to leave residue that attracted more dirt. This never did. I have to tell you that one time my toddler went to throw up in the living room and I put out my hands to catch it. My DH looked in disbelief. I told him that my hands cleaned up, but the carpet was tougher. He said that he could never do it. I could, but only for my own kids. Good luck! Oh, it's cheap, too!...See MoreFirst day in new house - dog smell in carpet
Comments (20)I done renovation work in some homes where pets had soiled the carpet. Professional carpet cleaning should help. If the underboards are badly soaked they will have to be treated after the carpets are pulled up. Bleach and water applied with a paint roller works wonders! If cleaning the carpet fails have a look at carpet remnants. While it won't be the perfect kind and color it will be new and clean. If you are careful not to slice off a finger (my dad's advice to me once) it can be cut with a utility knife and simply laid in place. Again not the best installation but fairly inexpensive and much better then living with stinky carpet. Part of the joy of being a homeowner is fixing things. Check out the link to doityourself website! Free articles on everything from wiring to cleaning windows. I had never been taught electrical wiring and that site gave me enough information to be confident that I could do the job the right way. Just becareful as you could become one of the glassy-eyed masses wandering around Home Depot dreaming of the next six things you can do to the homestead. Dolly dog whizzed on my carpet and I noticed it was much worse then any kitty accident. I had to buy my own carpet cleaning machine with special pet odor soap... which has been handy as I stupidly dribble coffee on my carpet fairly often. Just one of those cheapo machines but it is easy and does a fair job... better then I can do with a scrub brush and rags. Alas... I have about 1000 sq.ft. of light blue carpet that is 12 years old. Getting to be time to rip it out and lay some new. : ) lyra Here is a link that might be useful: do it yourself...See Morevery serious cat vomiting problem
Comments (28)I am going through the same thing. I went away on vacation and left my cat with my parents and their two dogs which my cat Bailey grew up with until I moved out. He often visits them when I go away. Then I took Bailey home and he started throwing up white foam. First it was once and a while, then it started picking up to 2-3 times a day. So I took the cat to the vet. They started with it being a hairball and gave me hairball lube as I call it. That made it worse. He started throwing up 6-7 times a day and stopped eating. I took him back 3 days later and they did x-rays and blood work and everything came back fine. They put him on fluids and Reglan, Carafate and Pepcid and sent him home $$$ dollars later. He was good for 3-4 days then went right back to throwing up. I was told to add gas x and baby food. The baby food made him barf just from the smell. He had an endoscopy yesteday and they found nothing visable. His biopsies were shipped to Cornell Veternary school befoe I even picked him up. (Haven't heard back yet). The doctor says that he really doesn't know whats causing it, but that once the results come back he may run lower GI testing and put him on steriods. The poor cat who had so much life in him (4 years old) all he does is sleep now. I haven't seen his eyes open since he came home. I rub him to make sure he is still with us sometimes. I really don't understand how a perfectly healthy cat gets so sick suddenly. I wish there was something more I could do while we try to figure this all out. I have to pick him up and move him to different locations. He's lost 3 lbs in a month. :(...See MoreSo... what color of paint will make this yellow carpet tolerable?
Comments (128)First of all, I'm mainly a lurker in this forum too :-) But I've SO ENJOYED your thread! The gold carpet is definitely a challenge, and it's been interesting to read what everyone has suggested. I think you can find a way to make it work, it's just a matter of selecting the useful comments and trying not to get to discouraged by the ones that aren't so helpful. This is a public place, and everyone wants to play (so to speak). I find the asymmetry of your quilt to be the most challenging part of the whole thing. I think I would use it like a throw, lay it across the bed, rather than like a bedspread. But, that's me, as I said it's not really my style. It's a beautiful quilt though, and I think it's very sweet that you want to use it and enjoy it :-) Your color combo, red and gold, is unconventional but I'm sure that it can work. Being rather design-challenged myself, I've been following along because I am curious how people will advise you. I searched on Houzz for "red and gold bedroom Pottery Barn" -- the design combos are there! I've attached a picture of a room that I think could be an inspiration room for you. It would be nice to see pictures of rooms you like, which would probably help everyone kind of focus all their designing energies. Please stay, I want to see how this turns out. I am also living in a "first home" (moved in 12 years ago) and it's not beautiful or full of character, or even very large LOL. But it's a lot nicer than it would be if I had never found this wonderful collection of forums on GW. Melanie...See MoreFishmo
