Dessert with a baked meringue?

I want to make something unusual for my husbandÂs birthday on Sunday. I have 4-5 egg whites left over from the Christmas cookies that needed only yolks.

Our daughter does not like the soft type of baked meringue (like is used on lemon meringue pie). But we all like the crispy kind. (Is there a name for that as opposed to the soft kind?) I thought of baking meringue discs, then layering them into a torte of sorts. (might be hard to slice, thoughÂ) Or baking meringue shells.

But fill/layer with what? Chocolate? Crème anglaise? Pie cherries?
