Having too much fun with a small appliance.....

I admit I am having way to much fun with my new Kitchen aid 3 in 1 immersion blender. I know I showed the photos on my other thread but here it is again.

I'm still getting used to how the attachments snap into place. Also not always using the correct tool.

Today I made mirepox. Usually I buy it in a package at Wegmans. The KA made it so easy I made extra to freeze. Also cut up extra veggies to freeze. Beat eggs for brownies (from scratch for the first time). Mixed a protein drink. Very foamy and well mixed.

I feel I have to give it a name. Its my new best friend ; )

Ours is named The Motorboat (comes in handy when you need to ask "hey, hon, where's the thingy [whisk, container, chopper...] for the motorboat?") Then for some weird reason I am compelled to do the old jump rope chant (occasionally I jump up and down in the kitchen, but I have been advised it is not recommended until we get the floor replaced).

Motorboat, motorboat, go so slow;
Motorboat, motorboat, go a little fast;
Motorboat, motorboat, step on the gas!

Yes, we have sing-alongs with appliances ...have fun with your new friend ;-)

Try 'sifting' them. I've got a grate with about 1/4 inch holes and it lets the VC through and keeps most worms in. I just taped the small grate to the bottom of a small cardboard box and shake it. Those with large enterprises have big automatic systems- kind of cones that rotate, but it's the same principle. Also, since I started using a flow through, I haven't needed to sort worms from compost. Not everyone's flow through keeps 100% of the worms out of the bottom stuff, but I've been lucky. I also leave it in there until I need some, so it stays there for a long time. Even so, I'm still a member of disturber's anonymous.

My two cents.....why not get a panelled frig to match your cabinets. "Some" black appliances will look real nice. However, to me frigs in black look big scary and dominating. I feel like they are ready to charge,trample and pack me inside to keep me quiet. I think black refigerators are jealious of beautiful kitchen cabinetry and want all the attention. If you have a big screen tv from the late eighties there is always the risk of them taking off with each other in the middle of the night. If the refrigerator becomes PG you will have thousands of large original cell phone parts in gray at your door step. Do you really want this responsibility? No offence to those who have black refrigerators, my two cents is just that. All your kitchens are gorgeous! Can't help my frig weirdness ....sorry.

Started new small lawn in clay soil but may have used too much peat

If you could untill the ground and remove the peat you'd be ahead of the game. Where do you live? Is the area shaded or sunny most of the day? We need that info to help you more. Your zone doesn't matter, we need the location. Most people who think they have clay have other stuff going on. If they try to fix it like it was clay then they are doing the wrong thing. There is a test called the jar test which can help you decide if you need further testing. Get a straight sided jar, fill it half way with soil, and measure the amount of soil with a ruler next to the glass (TAKE A PICTURE). Fill the jar with water and a short squirt of shampoo or dish soap. Cap the jar and shake it until all the soil is dissolved. Set the jar down, hold the ruler up and take another picture. After 2 minutes take another picture with the ruler. After 2 hours take another picture. After 2 days take another picture. What you will see is settling of sand/gravel (2 minutes), silt (2 hours), and clay (2 days). If you can see through the water on top of the soil after 2 days you don't have very much clay. Clay particles remain suspended for days and days to cloud the water. You can divide the sand by the total to get percentage of sand. Subtract the sand from the 2-hour picture settling and divide by the total to get the silt percentage. The rest will be clay. When you discover that you don't have any clay at all, then you might want to get a soil chemistry test to see what is the problem. Likely it is an imbalance of salts in the soil with too much magnesium being a possible problem.

Yes, I’m changing the layout. The first pic is my new layout. The space is an open loft, 30x30 with a private bathroom. This is the kitchen that it came with, The GW kitchen folks have helped me with my plan, along with some fellow Airbnb hosts that I know. I have the plan narrowed down to 2 options, both of which I love so will probably end up with the least costly option. The L shaped with an island is what I pictured in the first post. My other option is a U shape which will probably be more expensive as I would have to really move a lot of plumbing and there is more countertop to pay for.

We ought to expect that things will work as advertised, yet this is often not the case, so it's thrilling when they do. Have fun!

Good for you, Debrak, I'm glad you are having fun playing with your new kitchen assistant.

I'm really proud of you, though, for those brownies from scratch and the mire poix. Now you're cooking!

Malna, If I started singing and dancing in the kitchen..... I'm not sure what my family would think, LOL.

The family wasn't sure what to make of the brownies. They seem so different (but really good) compared to the box mixes.

Malna, if I started singing and dancing in the kitchen, my family would just start singing along, LOL. My now ex-MIL never did get it, though. She came in one time in the middle of quite a loud chorus of "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" and promptly went right back out, in spite of the aroma of freshly baked cookies.

Her loss, LOL. We ate 'em all without her.
