King Crab Legs on sale if you are interested!

I had to go to the SAFEWAY grocery store in Mt. Airy Maryland today (30 Jan 08) to fill prescriptions for this darn FLU/whatever!!!

They have some of the best/biggest King crab legs on sale for $10.00 a lb I have seen in at least a year.

If you have a SAFEWAY in your area and are interested, call first to see if they carry them and are having the sale.

I have to pick up prescriptions tomorrow so I guess I'll just break down and get a couple of pounds.

I guess you can tell how much will power I have over these things!!!!!!!!

That's a good one, rawb. :) Actually, the Rural King I go to is in a good sized city. The "city folks" love it too. In addition to farming and gardening stuff, you can get anything from cleaning products, canning equipment and products, food items and patio furniture to all kinds of pet food and accessories. Everybody should have a Rural King nearby. Ooops, almost forgot seeds and bedding plants.

I live in Annapolis. To my knowledge, none of Phillips crabmeat is Maryland crab - it is from overseas. They have closed the restaurant in Annapolis and I would avoid buying their seafood if you want authentic crab meat (like from the USA) . They used to be a family owned restaurant at the beach many years ago, where you stood in line for hours to get a table - back in the good old days! Below is a locally owned Seafood Market. Google Annapolis Seafood Market to look at their website. I have no business interest in them other than as a customer. If you really want fresh crab and you want to pay the shipping, I highly recommend them. This time of year the crabs are not from the Chesapeake Bay. I would never buy crab in a can / tin - pasteurized - changes the texture as well as the taste. Anytime you buy frozen crab meat - thaw it in the frig - container upside down. Crab is high on my list of fine foods. However, this thread's question has me stumped. I don't know how to compare the different preparations of one kind of crab, let alone whole vs. legs or one kind of crab vs. another. They all have their gustatory good points. The economics have everything to do with the preparation and serving method. Steamed blue crabs stand out as my favorite. The recipe starts with "Catch a few dozen large blue crabs..." This is best done with the aid of a bunch of kids and provides a half day of great entertainment as well as cheap food of the best quality. The recipe ends with dumping the spicy steamed crabs in a pile on a newspaper covered picnic table and settling in for a long, lazy, messy session of picking and eating with a cooler full of thirst quenchers. Buying a bushel of blue crabs, then steaming and serving them the same way, is an option. But you're deprived of half the fun. Jim

I love Dungeness Crab. Growing up in the Bay Area I bought it live all the time during the season, but I always just dropped it into a big pot of boiling water and ate the meat with melted butter, cocktail sauce and a ginger vinaigrette for dipping. Roasted with garlic sounds wonderful! Unfortunately, around here it's pretty much all sold pre-cooked, so quality is sort of hit and miss. Roasting it after it's already been cooked (who knows for how long) would undoubtedly mean it would be way over cooked. I guess the season is almost over, so I'll have to file this recipe away for next year and pick up some good live crabs on a trip into the Bay Area. Thanks!

msazadi, cold part (of Maryland) is right but not even close to what some of the guys have in areas on this web site! Check out some of the ones living in Maine/Montana/Canada/whatever! Hell, to them (rightly so) I'm practically living in a beach resort, LOL. However don't ask me to agree with that!

I've been thinking of moving to Florida/ Mexico/ wherever but it's not as simple as it sounds, there are underlying problems that make one stop and think a lot, once you start checking out things.

Besides I just want to start eating well with out going out every dam night! It sounds great to a lot of people that you can afford it , however it gets "OLD" really fast!!

My favorite question in a great restaurant is "Do you use MSG in your cooking", invariably you get the NO, NO, everything is natural, LOL,LOL!

Yes my Safeway has them on sale for that price also. They do that sale here (VA) about once every month or so. My question - what's a Maryland boy doing bragging on the King Crab Legs, we're Blue Crab people! LOL!

dixiedog, sometime you just have to eat whats available man, LOL!
There isn't a crab that's ever slid down evolutions chute better than the Maryland Blue (#1 Jumbo's, ALRIGHT)!
But you just have to give those West coast guys a break every now and then, especially when they go from $16.00 to $9.99 a lb! I still don't know what's going on with that, but I won't knock it!
They have been having them at that price every other week practically in Mt Airy
Great hearing from a neighbor and thanks for the Maryland Blue Crab, reminder. Keep your "Knocker" in your right hand and the beer in the left, LOL!
