Same exact conversation here. 68 degrees in winter (when he is home), 66 if he isn't. If I am working hard around the house in summer, I have been known to turn the thermostat to 74.

DH wears layers inside the house. You would think we lived in the North Pole! But you are right. They can layer up, we can't strip down.

I am almost always cold and DH is like a toasty bear :) I wear layers in the house year round and have a down blanket year round and add a huge down comforter in the winter. I wear a wool underwear tshirt to bed. DH just folds the bedding back that he doesn't want on his side.

We have the house at 66-68 in the winter and turn it off completely at bedtime. It never gets colder than 60 or so with it off. In the summer we set it at 78...sometimes I sneak it to 80. DH has an old oscillating table fan that he carries around .

I take my RHT and have for 15 yrs or so...makes all the difference..haven't had a "flash" since I started and don't intend to take the last pill till I take my last breath ! c

We're the same as vickie and golddust. Unfortunately for me, up till my hormones kicked in and menopause kicked on I used to share my husband's temperature comfort zone. For us it was having the AC set between 78-80 during the day most of the year and using the heat on the rare occasions in a Miami winter that the temperature inside approached 70 (death cold :).

However. I can't handle that anymore but he still thinks that's where the thermostat should stay. My husband is 6'5", weighs 180 and as our son puts it has '3% body fat'. He is ALWAYS cold. So for him 80 is very comfortable. And it's not just me, our son and daughter can't be comfortable at that level either. Both my daughter and I get headaches at night sleeping in too hot conditions, and my son can't sleep at all. The past couple of nights when the weather warmed up after a cold snap (thus we hadn't used the AC) I woke up 2 nights in a row with night sweats and morning headaches. Not fun.

So we're in the guerrilla war stage of thermostat wars: we turn it down, he turns it up. What's especially frustrating is that my husband actually sleeps in our florida room (partially for temperature, partially for quiet from the rest of the household) so he isn't even suffering at night if the temperature is lower! To give an example of his preferences, in Miami and sleeping in a room that is the ambient temperature at night (usually a range between 70-80 degrees) he sleeps under a sheet, light blanket and matelasse coverlet...every night.

Same thing here - I roast, he freezes. It has been that way for 45 years. No way I can see to solve the problem: I'm layered, he's bundled; I'm under a sheet, he's under a pile of blankets wearing a sweatshirt with the hood up. Thank goodness I went through menopause with nary a hot flash, or I might have boiled in my own juices.

I run more to the warm side and thankfully my husband is pretty similar.

When dh started taking blood thinners it seems like he was always cold. He's good about putting on layers or grabbing a blanket.

We keep the heat set at 66-67 and the air at 72-74. After 12 years I still have the occasional hot flash at night. It's no big deal.

For those of you with "cold" husbands, are they on blood pressure meds or, like Natal said, blood thinners?? DH used to be very "warm", but now that he is taking BP meds, he is always cold, especially his feet.

Most of my life, I have been cold. Generally cool in the summer months, which is great, but miserably cold in winter, which is awful. Once I started with hot flashes, I was cold, cold, cold, TOO HOT, quickly back to cold and now a bit sweaty, too. Summer is easier for me because there are fewer layers to take off and put back on to adjust to the temperature changes.

My DH used to be warm all the time but never, ever, complained. He folded the blanket over in the summer so it wasn't on him, he adapted by dressing appropriately for him. When he was sick he had to be on blood thinners for a few months. Then he was always cold but it was also winter. It was an odd situation when he was the one with the temperature issues. It was great for me because we bumped the heat up that winter. I was almost comfortable.

Since being off the blood thinners, for over 2 years, he still actually mentions being cold once in awhile and now has to dress appropriately for that. He rarely even wore sweaters before but now he does.

Once summer I was watching my sister's elderly dog. At one point, it wouldn't get up or move and I thought it was about to die or something. I called another sister, and dog owner, over for advice. She said "the dog is probably too hot". The dog was in the air conditioned house that was set at 76 and the outside temp was 96. I said to my DH "can you believe she said it's hot in here & that's why the dog isn't moving?". He replied "it is hot in here". What?! It's 20 degrees cooler than outside, how can that be hot? It still makes me laugh thinking about his matter-of-fact reply.

We are both under 40.

At one time I would've said I'm most often chilly, but with my internal thermostat having gone haywire thanks to menopause, I vacillate wildly between profuse-sweating hot flashes and subsequent chills at numerous times during the day and night. Strangely, every night at just about 9:00, I developed an inner chill that causes me to shiver badly, and no amount of covering up can quell it, because it's internal. I really hate this, but don't wish to resume taking hormones (not even the bio-identicals I was on before), so for now I'm just enduring.

That's more than anyone ever wanted to know, isn't it?

Just turned the big 5-0 last Sept., but I still run "Hot" in the summer. Always have in adulthood too!
Been on a 325mg aspirin every day for over 4yrs. (prone to skipped heartbeats-PVC's, and a couple past episodes of a-fib), and a couple BP-pills.

I get "Colder" in the winter now, and like the temp @~ 70-72.
BUT...in the summer, if it's warmer, I'd LOCK the T-stat @ 68 if I could!!!!!
DW can't stand it that cold, so...yes...we have our battles!

Wait a second! Compared to the outside heat and humidity, 76 was much cooler. If it were solely up to me we wouldn't have the air conditioning on at all. So again, I say, 76 was much cooler and less humid than the alternative.

Thankfully for me, my DH is happy to set it wherever I want it and he adjusts with adding/removing clothing. So, there is not a constant battle over this. The only battle is within myself! I used to always be cold, but now I go from cold to HOT to cold to....not liking this age thing!

I am extremely grateful that DH doesn't care because my parents fought constantly about this. In fact, they still do. Dad is almost 93 and mom is almost 89! And they still argue about it. My mom was always HOT and my dad was always COLD. Each time one of them would pass the thermostat in the house, they would adjust it. After a short time, the other would get hot/cold and go adjust, and on and on...

Actually, DH is very easy going. True, he wears a Merino wool base layer, a shirt and sometimes a polar vest inside, he hardly ever mentions the temperature. Me? I just make sure he has plenty of those Merino wool base layers.

gold..I bet you shop Sierra Trading Post don't you ?? I get DH and myself and now my kids the Terramar merino wool undershirts. They wear like iron. I use them on my bike trips and they get washed at the laundromat and dried in the dryers and still look new. When they have the ultra coupon they are only $27 which is wonderfully inexpensive. c

Yep. Sierra Trading Post is awesome. The Merino wool base layers can run up to just under $100. elsewhere (read: REI).

My normal body temp has been 97.4 for years, and I'm always chilly or cold, except in the heat of the Texas summers. I prefer heat over cold, since when I get really cold, it's hard for me to warm up. I wear flannel jams, even in the summer, but will occasionally put on a tank top during the night.

I will say I have more trouble getting warm and staying warm since my bike trip in 2010. I was out in the cold and wind for hours and hours every day ...all day. It has changed my thermostat I think . It takes almost nothing for me to be cold and it seems to be worse. My feet are never warm unless I have on my wool socks and shoes. DH hates them in bed LOL...just kidding. c
