I should have come here first...

I made pasta sauce yesterday and sent my husband to go get Italian sausages for it - he came home with Italian smokies. I didn't feel like going out to pick up more so I added one to the sauce (which also contained meatballs). Ugh, hot dog pasta. We had guests over too. Go figure, the kids really liked it! I really didn't think it would be that bad but the flavour of the smokey really came out in the sauce and overwhelmed everything - even the garlicky meatballs. I did the should I/shouldn't I think for about 10 minutes before I added it and figured how bad would it be - BAD. Now I know, don't send the husband to pick up specific items. My friend did make me this casserole carrying thing for potlucks and stuff which is really neat.

Ah, Cookie, I know of what you speak...sending the SO off to buy the right thing and ending up with "what made you pick that hon"?
I needed egg noodles for a side dish, sent DH out and he came home with Egg Wrappers for Asian rolls. Okay. I asked him what the hay, he told me they were out of egg noodles so the "guy" brought him over to the wrappers. I ask what "guy"? The stockboy. Okay. Lesson learned. Now I draw him a diagram of the store, where it will be found and describe the item as best I can. And if he can't find it...don't buy it.
Sorry your hot dog pasta dinner wasn't as stellar as you'd have liked.

I've told DH that several times, sometimes it sinks in, sometimes not. In these days of cell phones, I encourage him to call me from the store and ask if he's not sure. Sometimes he does, sometimes not. I try to be very specific... you know, sometimes that works.... sometimes not!

Karen - do you want the tomato seeds I harvested from my grape tomato and Stupice fruit last year? I've got about 3 trades' worth I could send you. I accidentally spilled them on my desk so they may be mixed together but once they take off, you'll know which is which--the grape tomatoes (from Diane's Flower Seeds) grew 9 ft. tall last year. I think the seaweed extract/worm poop tea I fed them might have been part of the reason they grew so tall. Anyway, they're yours for postage.

Might have to do with your curing method, variety or storage conditions. I kept my 'Spanish Roja' in a cool, dry and dark spot in the basement after harvest and 3-4 weeks of drying. I planted mine 3 weeks ago and have about 75-80% sprouting. Could also be planting depth? hortster

Gee, I won't even try to figure out what my smaller Presto canner comes out to over a 40+ year life or my late mother's 22 qt. (two layer canning). I just know they didn't cost as much as the ones today, but have paid for themselves so many times over. I bought my sister a used, but like new 16 qt. Presto last year at a sale and am going to get her the weight pressure regulator this year. Also, if Fairfax probably has an Extension office that could regulate the guages that come on them today. Use to live in Fairfax, then Leesburg. Surely there's an Extension office somewhere nearby.

Snook, I know what you are saying, I have read that the Hickey Freemans on STP are knock-offs. I am not sure if that is true but their prices are higher than LastCall.com. Edit: My statement above needs editing. It should have said that I heard the STP Hickey's were 2nds as in not perfect enough for the top shelf. I did not mean to imply they were fake Hickey's. I'm starting to think my DH is a polygamist with wives all over the place 'cause we all seemed to be married to the same guy.

I rarely send Clive for anything, it has to be a last minute emergency type thing. I try and keep it simple, try to be very clear, encourage him to call me on the cell.....and still!

A few weekends ago we were having a family gathering that involved fresh rolls for meatball, sausage and roasted veggie sandwiches. I was concerned that I may not have enough but was in the middle of prep so I asked DH to go to the bakery for me.

I showed him the buns I had and told him if they didn't have them get another roll that would work well for what I was serving, told him to ask the baker for a suggestion.

Well they were out of the Italian buns I wanted so DH asked for rolls that would be good for sandwiches for a "fancy" party....he came home with croissants! LOL

I send mine with explicit instructions and brands often..

The other day he went to Safeway to drop off videos..he of course like he always does asked if I needed anything...I didn't NEED a thing..but pineapples were 3.99 each..
so I said pick up a pineapple..pick it up..smell it..check it over, and pull out a stem leaf..if it comes out with out much give and the pineapple feels firm and smells good bring that one home..

LOL he did exactly as I instructed and brought home a very tasty pineapple...but he had his cell JUST IN CASE..LOL
