Do a search here for Kitchenaid ovens.You will see a lot of failures of the ovens posted after self clean is run on them.

If there were anyway you could change your plan, I would go with 2 separate ovens, rather than a double oven.

Regardless of the brand, Double ovens fail much more often than do single ovens, also since they use common parts for the ovens, there is a good chance that any failure in one of the ovens will also disable the other oven.

Unfortunately we have just seen that happen to one our users here who has what "Some Consider" A High end oven/ovens ---- that's gotta be a bummer right at Christmas time!

While Electrolux does get very good reviews both on performance and reliability of their ovens, a year or 2 back, they too had their share of double oven failures---they did admit it (Unlike some of the other manufacturers) and said they have fixed the problem----maybe they have, but as much as I like my Single Elux Icon Oven (trouble free for over 4 years now), there's no way I would buy a double one --- I would rather have my carpenter design so the 2 ovens could be separate-----yea more expensive now,
but if ya don't ---There's a good chance you will be paying
"More" later to keep the double ovens running!

Not the Kitchen Aid !

Kitchenaid ovens have always worked for us. Because of a kitchen remodel and then new construction we've had 2 Kitchenaid wall ovens. No trouble and great performance from each. My current oven is 3 years old. I self-clean 2 to 3 times a year without incident. Baking, roasting, broiling and cleaning cycles are simple to set and deliver results.

My SIL recently finished a new home and she has 3 Kitchenaid wall ovens between 2 kitchens. Each has the microwave oven up top. One of the units has the steam feature and it is fabulous. She has the matching warming drawers and induction cooktops. Everything has been fine.

Not to minimize other experiences, but it is rare to read comments of praise on the web.

charly, were your KA ovens singles or doubles?

I don't know whether the singles had problems, but the doubles made a couple of years ago doubtlessly had widespread issues, which KA didn't own up to. It's one thing to have a few issues (or a lot) and resolve them. It's another to pretend that a known design flaw is not really there, and to provide no customer service.

I've had my Electrolux double ovens for about 4 months now, have run the self clean once, no issues. They work BEAUTIFULLY, I'm very satisfied with the performance. They also have a very sturdy feel to them, and I REALLY like the roll out racks. The door and racks felt a lot sturdier to me than the KA did--that was the decision point for me.
I think that E'lux is a very reliable brand--and that problem that Dodge pointed out was short lived and quickly fixed by the company. I've been on this forum a long time, and it seeems to me that the KA's are "hit and miss" from year to year. When they are good, they're very, very good, but when they're not, they cause a lot of frustration and angst. The Electrolux problem never even came up on this forum, which tells me something, too. Usually something major gets a hit here, it seems.
I, personally, would not spend the money to install two separate ovens "just in case". Just my opinion.

charly - even the worst designed and produced product has units that exceed expectations and life cycle. Not saying the KA oven is the worst , but there are far too many complaints for me to take a chance on getting one that is good. KA's/ Whirlpool's stance that there was never any problem to begin with is very troubling for me too. Especially when they "back door" sent around a tech service release and have a new part # and a redesign of the core unit.

Considering that they are not cheaper than the competition, have the same or worse performance, don't look any different than a dozen others - why should I take a chance on them? Certainly not because the KA name impresses anyone these days.

I have had the KA double oven (KEBS208SS) for about 5 months now. I purchased it before reading all the reviews about the self cleaning issue. I have not used the self clean on the oven as a result and manage to keep it spotless with a little baking soda and vinegar. (I never really liked to use the self clean on my previous oven either so I have no issues with this one.)
I really liked the overall look of the oven and have had no issues with any baking I have done. This is my first convection oven so I am still getting used to the differences from my old non-convection.

We are quite content with our Kitchenaid kitchen equipment. We have moved a lot over the years and frankly I can be happy with GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool whatever. Surely, some work better than others, but surprisingly I have never had a really troublesome appliance excepting a Bosch dishwasher. Yes, we do a lot of cooking, baking and clean up here. So I can tell what is what, regarding performance. Kitchenaid is more than satisfactory for me.

You see a lot of complaints and sour notes here with the more highly acclaimed brands. Some of the upper tier stuff in my opinion is a lot of marketing fluff meant to appeal to some that are impressed with being impressed. I reselected my Kitchenaid kitchen for me; based upon previous experience and requirements.

I don't care what my neighbors, visitors, real estate agents, potential purchasers of my home(one day) or relatives think. South Florida is chock full of phoney bologny and I am not about to participate in that.

Um, actually, I don't see "a lot" of sour notes and complaints about the "highly acclaimed" brands, except for Viking. Vikings get a lot of complaints, mainly because Viking customer service seems lacking when the product fails. Wolf and Miele get a lot of press on these forums for ovens, and we do hear tell of Thermadors and Dacors now and again with varying results. Someone had a problem with a Miele recently, but that is the first sour note regarding that oven that I've seen in a long, long time. It's the same with Wolf--haven't heard of performance problems with them for a long time, either/ People who buy Miele, Wolf, and some of the other products don't always do so because they are 'out to impress'. I chose my E'lux ovens over the KA because of the spotty reliablity of that brand and the fact that KA denied problems, which made it pretty hard to get warranty service and caused a lot of frustration for people. I'm glad that you have had such good luck with your Kitchen Aid appliances over the years. Nobody is saying that you made a bad decision or that you got an inferior product, obviously your ovens work well for you. But please don't dismiss those of us who've made different decisions based on our own research and needs as "status seekers". Sometimes that is the case, but mostly, folks who care enough to show up in this forum and ask questions are looking for reliable, well performing products. The budgets range all over the map, but overall, nobody here wants to spend hard earned cash on something that won't last or won't work well. We aren't all being bamboozled by the glitz of marketing. Sometimes there is substance behind the reputation, and with due diligence, you can weed out the fluff and make your choices accordingly.

I'm sorry if I sound testy, but I get that way when people come on the forum and start insinuating that others who buy some of the higher end products are simply appliance snobs or just plain stupid to fall for marketing hype. Sometimes, people for whom cooking is one of the joys in life will actually spend the money to be sure that they get something that meets their performance expectations. And when it does, it increases their enjoyment of the cooking process. I don't see that as a bad thing. We all have things that we enjoy.

A performance problem can strike any appliance maker for any number of reasons. How the company chooses to respond to the problem tells you what their priorities are.

charly- I'm not trying to tell you YOU shouldn't like your KA, or that EVERYONE will be unhappy with one , or that EVERYONE will like Miele or Bluestar or something else. It would be foolish of me to rec that oven, given it's OVERALL track record and the number of other options in the same price range. Keep in mind there were a measurable number of Pinto, Corvair, and Yugo owners. Odds were better than not though , that YOU would get a crappy one if you decided to write a check for one.

What I am saying is that if (one)is shopping for an oven today (their) odds are better with another brand even for the same or less money!

1. They are not any cheaper than a comparable oven.
2. They have a documented record of trouble recently with enough of a failure rate to raise an eyebrow with even the most casual observer.
3. They publicly deny that there is a problem ....yet
4. They have changed the offending part's design and sent around a technical service bulletin to service co.s regarding the not flawed part saying that you may want to change this for your customers (wink , wink) and tell em the best part Mortimer....you can charge them for the part AND your time to remedy our screwup.

We have the Elux icon pro double wall ovens and like them a lot. They are sturdy and so easy to use. Intuitive controls, roll out shelves, good cooking features, nice lighting, huge windows, cool touch surfaces. Great unit!

If you haven't made your decision yet, go with the Electrolux. We installed the KA double oven (convection in 1) in May & although we did tons on research on everything, we rushed to meet the rebate deadline & didn't do it on the oven. It works & we'll be ok with it; I even ran the self-clean on both ovens before the warranty ran out -- no fuses blown. However, it is the one applicance I have had the most service calls on -- the convection motor was VERY noisy & was replaced as "broken". It works now, but has a rattle that comes & goes. (Service tech says the glass in the door needs tightening . . .) I don't think the regular mode nor the convection mode cooks evenly and am always rotating my baking & other things (convection should take care of that!). My efforts to show the repair tech a picture taken with my cell phone didn't help either -- something about it was reaching the correct temperature. We purchased an extended warranty since there seem to be so many issues. I am happy with my other KA applicances, but definitely would go for the Electrolux next time.

I have to add that even my engineer/very practical husband admitted last week that he got taken in by the royal blue porcelein interior & the big windows -- it does look good, but keep looking . . .
