Great idea about door lock monitoring

Okay - I had a thought last night as my DW asked me to check the doors to see if they were locked. I then thought about how many doors we are going to have in our new house. There is a walkout basement with 2 doors - one to work area and another to the living area. The main floor has a back door, side door, garage door and front door. That is 6 doors!

Why not wire in sensors to the base of the deadbolt? We are going to have a security system installed - seems like it should be easy to add this in. Then it would be just a manner of checking some lights at the keypad each night - far more reliable than our memory and easier than checking 6! doors on 2 different levels.

Anyone ever done this or heard of it? It might be a little tricky to get a sensor in there but it certainly can be done and at relatively little cost.
